That sounds really good. I remember my mom used to make the pineapple or peach upside down cake, but never heard of apple. Guess I'll have to eat the piece of apple crumble my ex's cousin sent home with me today when I went there for lunch.

I have some apples I need to use up and that cake looks delicious.
I'd also be interested to know @house_cat how you baked it.

I used a 9" round baking pan, which I greased with butter and added a pre-cut parchment round.
I melted about 1/2 stick of butter and brushed it ontop of the parchment, then sprinkled the butter with some brown sugar.
After I added the cooked apples, I poured in the pound cake mixture. I mixed it according to the package directions and baked it for probably 45 minutes.
I've learned to use a probe thermometer for baking. If you have one, insert it into the center of the cake. If the temp registers 200° - 210° then the cake is done.
I did put a baking sheet under my pan because I wasn't sure if it would overflow. It did not, but I would suggest using one just in case.

@house_cat Thanks for the details. About how many apples did you use?

It was probably about 8 rather small honey crisp apples. My grocery store often sells them in a bag and they are considerably smaller than if you buy them individually. This is the pan before they were cooked down. There was probably about a cup of cooked apples that I didn't add to the cake... I used only enough to cover the bottom of the pan.

Yummm I really want to make this now! Wish I had a box of cake mix! Guess I could try from scratch.

@Kachina624 You took the words right out of my mouth, I was thinking a scoop of ice cream on top would kick it up a notch!
