It was probably about 8 rather small honey crisp apples. My grocery store often sells them in a bag and they are considerably smaller than if you buy them individually.  This is the pan before they were cooked down.  There was probably about a cup of cooked apples that I didn't add to the cake... I used only enough to cover the bottom of the pan.IMG_2379.jpeg

Love your helper. Your cake looks wonderful. Your technique also works well with peaches, blueberries, marionberries...probably great with cherry filling too. Mmm.

Now I am hungry for anything cinnamon.  😋

Re: Apple Upside Down Cake (cheat)

@house_cat  I baked this cake today it is delicious. I did change it a bit and I mixed a spice cake mix instead of pound cake and also added small pieces of pecans in the apples.  Just wanted to thank you again for a great easy receipt.

Re: Apple Upside Down Cake (cheat)

@WORKING GAL  I baked it in a 9" round pan.  it turned out great and came right out of the pan.

@WORKING GAL

I also used a 9" round pan, but I used the boxed pound cake mix. I'm not sure if the spice cake mix would require a larger pan.
