yes...i use bay leaves when a recipe calls for them.....but i have no clue what purpose they serve....have no idea what a bay leaf tastes like!

It's a savory seasoning, which really doesn't help much for imagining the taste.  I always put a bay leaf or two in soups .... and it's Turkey Vegetable Soup time.   Woman Happy

Re: ARE WE HAVING A BAY LEAF SHORTAGE?

Amazon's got them in stock in whatever size you might like. I use bay leaves in spaghetti sauce, beef stew, chili and any other recipe that calls for it. I tend to double the amount listed in the recipe. As another poster mentioned, remove the whole leaves from the food once it's cooked. I also warn everyone at the table not to eat the leaves, just in case I missed one.

I have always used dried bay leaves in my kitchen cabinets.  They smell so nice and seem to keep those tiny ants from coming around.  Its a natural pest control in addition to a wonderful ingredient in receipes.

Penzey's has some. $3.69 for 1/2 oz bag, $5.95 for 1 oz bag or $11.95 for 4 oz bag. Glad I have some on hand.

Penzey's has free shipping on $24.95 ends tomorrow 11-30-21.

Was just at Penzey's last month and got a bagful. They had plenty then. Use them in beef stews and some soups. Definitely adds some hard to describe flavor!
