With just me and DH now and us both retired, I find that cake recipes even in a 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 pan is more cake than what we need.
Searching cooking forums and recipes for two, I found a 6 inch cake pan plus some recipes. It's a hit! I made a chocolate cake a few weeks ago and today I made a carrot cake. It's perfect for each of you to have a slice today and tomorrow!

@tarsmom, interesting - I didn't realize a pan this size was available. I don't bake large cakes (13x9) any longer because it's just too much for the two of us. I usually just make a small pan of Jiffy cake or brownies, but have been thinking of making those mixes in my Curtis Stone mini loaf pans. That way I could freeze one or two.

@jannabelle1 definitely!
We like treats but sure don't want a panful to pick at - because you know how that goes! Or you end up wasting it. When I worked I baked a lot and brought some into the office as did my husband. Now that it's just us, I needed to find a way to still enjoy cakes. Pintrest has a lot of ideas, too! What I did here was make the cake and cut hearts out for my husband. The scraps I kept for me!

Thanks for the suggestion to check out smaller recipes, @tarsmom. I wouldn't mind making a small cake from scratch - the ingredients would be very manageable. I'm going to try my CS mini loaf pans since I'm pretty sure they would work with a smaller recipe too.

If you go on that website that starts with a "P" - don't want to put it in, in case of this post being deleted- you can do a search for recipes for 1 or 2 servings and "pin" the recipe to save. There are sweet recipes and savory ones as well. I live alone and find that helpful for making more manageable meals and desserts.

I make 9" layer cakes only if making for 6-8 people.
For the 2 of us- I bake a 6" round (4 c. batter) Wilton pan. Once cooled I slice in 1/2 to get 2 layers. Frost with favorite icing.
Less waste & we can't eat all that cake a 9" makes. I also make mini bundt cakes (single servings) got the bundt tins at Home Goods.
I made this 6" for bdays.

@homedecor1 Would you be able to take a photo and post of your mini bundt pan (single serve). I am wondering if it is what I have. I have never used it, I'm afraid of sticking issues. Do you bake ALL KINDS of cakes in the pan?
