Free shipping sometimes costs you more.  

 

Example:  

 

You see two auctions on Ebay and the items are virtually identical in every way. 

 

One auction has a price of $15 and shipping is $5.00   

The other auction is $20 and offers free shipping.    

 

With the "free" shipping you will pay tax on $20.  With the other auction, you pay tax on only $15.   

 

For some, it wouldn't matter because they are getting something free. 

 

For others, it would matter.

@Tinkrbl44 - Actually, in some states, tax is assessed on the total transaction amount, not just the item price. (FWIW, I have been a seller on ebay for over 10 years and have shopped there for more than 25 years.)

ShopHQ offers free shipping everyday on all items! Maybe the Q should think about that.
