Re: Three New QVC Hosts Started Their New Hire Training

@Teddixat...are you referring to 'Lena'?  I thought she enjoyed her job and was employed for quite a while with QVC...I am guessing with young kids the schedule has to be rough....currently she is working with Dennis Basso.

i agree. More diversity in hosts please.  Many years ago they did hire an African American host but she was gone in no time.  It didn’t seem like they gave her much of a chance

Maybe you have not watched in the last 5-10 years and have missed Jane and Leah???

@Shawnie  Jayne, Leah, Gabrielle, and Rachel.  Oh Good job QVC, Good job! [eye roll] Four hosts out of 32, and soon to be 4 hosts out of 35.  Of course I want to see whomever is best for the hosting job.  But come on...who's the recruiting manager over there?

I forgot about Gabrielle and Rachel B.  My bad.  Especially since I like Rachel but I haven't seen her lately.  Looks like they could do better on the Hispanic front I think.  Here are the most recent US racial demographics that I found.  People forget that AA are actually a small piece of the racial pie in the US.

"As of July 2016, White Americans are the racial majority. African Americans are the largest racial minority, amounting to an estimated 12.7% of the population. Hispanic and Latino Americans amount to an estimated 17.8% of the total U.S. population, making up the largest ethnic minority.[8] The White, non-Hispanic or Latino population make up 61.3% of the nation's total, with the total White population (including White Hispanics and Latinos) being 76.9%.[9]"

But I just want the most qualified, skilled oral presenter that does not annoy me.  From my point of view they just need to weed out anyone that smacks of a circus barker.  And QVC production managers have to stop telling the hosts to speed it up.  Manic presentations by anyone are a quick turn off for me.

@Shawnie  I don't forget about census numbers.  But what some forget is that business looks beyond census data.  I'm talking sales in particular.  Research has shown for years that companies in the top quartile for age, gender, racial, and ethnic diversity are more likely to have financial returns above their national industry medians. Companies in the bottom quartile in these dimensions are statistically less likely to achieve above-average returns.

QVC has been trying to shift their market share upwards, as evidenced by their push to include younger shoppers, and more affluent shoppers.  This new Qurate Retail group that owns QVC & HSN has made a huge deal of empowering women to be the forefront of their brand identify (their video can be accessed by clicking on Qurate at the bottom of the QVC homepage).  QVC's customer base is growing and becoming much more diverse every quarter.  They are [slowly] adding more inclusive brands that reflect that.

So, yes, I am still surprised that they can bring a man from across the pond, but still have trouble recruiting in a way that their hosts reflect their growing customer base.

All I'm saying is that QVC is not doing a bad job, but they can do better. We agree totally on one thing, I just want the best hosts they can find.

Re: Three New QVC Hosts Started Their New Hire Training

@Caaareful Shopper Yes.  And interesting research I did not know.  I do wonder whether shopping channels translate to the younger age demographic at all.  I work with a 75% under 30 crowd.  Only one of them occassionally watches Qvc and that is because her mother will alert her to something, usually a TSV.  As far as the across the pond guy this is what I think--Accents may cause some of us to pay more attention in order to be able to process the information.  And I suspect we have some preconceived notions about different accents as well.  The English accent is easy enough for us to understand and it seems to bring some authority because the speech pattern is not as lazy as the US patterns.  And that is my pseudo scientific explanation for why I bought a shredder from the fast talking English guy!😬

@BirkiLady  First of all didn't know it was a speech impediment,   My brother had a speech impediment as a child,  worked with a therapist and he speaks perfect now.    If Amy has worked with a therapist fir years I just wonder why she still has this problem  .    I have just stated that listening to her say the certain words is annoying to me..  It seems many of us are annoyed by one host or another     yourself included.  It doesn't mean I dislike her and that I dont feel she's a great person!  I don't feel it's necessary to say I am not compassionate .

@Reever.  Just my theory regarding Dan Hughes. He has said for awhile that his farm is for sale. He also said he purchased property in Wisconsin I think, to build a house. I think he has been planning for his retirement.

I remember Lena McIlwaine who was a QVC host at one time.  If I remember correctly, I thought she left to become a stay-at-home mom.  I remember it had something to do with her family.  She was very pretty - and still is as a Dennis Basso rep.
