I've watched QVC for many years and have seen some areas of decline in the kitchen shows. I've put off saying anything for a long time but have reached my tolerance level. I no longer enjoy watching bad hosts selling the same old same old again and againg. However, David Venable and Mary de Angelis get high marks.
First: on the food and kitchen shows too many of the female hosts and backups have long hair hanging down the front side of their face. Does no one realize how much hair is shed in one day, no matter how healthy? Yuk. Think about that. I do commend Tina Burreli for wearing headbands along with a few others who gather their hair in a ponytail or bun.
Another problem that is not good is that some of the hosts have very long, manicured nails. While that may look pretty, think of all the junk on the underside of the nails. They may look clean but the buildup close to the finger tip is not easy to get rid of. Thanks David for very short nails.
Also, you have a person named Steve Doss that is the first one at the table when it comes to tasting food. Have you watched him on TV? He takes such big bites that his cheeds bulge out. Yuk. Maybe he should take smaller bites. I have to fast-forward the recording when he's on, very off-putting.
Lastly there are people (mostly women) that talk over each other and it sounds like a squabble. The champion of this is Lisa La Sorte. It gets so bad you don't know what is being said. I have taken to fast forwarding so much of the show that I miss segments and the good old days.

Their hair or nails have nothing to do w/ my purchase.
They are not cooking or preparing the food I personally will eat.
They are presenting...not making, cooking, prepping for anyone's table.
Shedding hair is not an issue! I watch a lot of food shows and have never seen a close up shot with hair in it....
Tina is wearing her hair back...so good for her....but it really doesn't matter as the majority of the food sitting in the lights will not be consumed by anyone anyways.
The food they mush to show moistness isn't going in anyone's mouth.
Women can wear their nails any way they want! You are not seeing camera shots of the underside of their nails. I see many hosts wiping their hands after touching food.
Everything mentioned is spot on in restaurants, food pantries, school cafeterias or in my home...but has no application to selling food on TV that isn't going to be eaten.

@RespectLife , I agree with you 100%. And doing food safety inspections is part of my job.

@Love Red I agree with a lot of what you said. The nails are awful and I'm surprised that management doesn't tell them to curb that desire to have flashy fingernails as the focus of their presentations.
With Steve, he takes those big bites on purpose to keep his new nickname (given by David) applicable.

Its a sales show not a restaurant. Your not eating the food so why do you care? But you are not in the minority as this same old, same old complaint comes up from time to time.
I dont get why people complain about such minute things when it does not affect them as in eating the food.
All the hosts and some vendors talk over others most of the time. QVC allows it to continue, so you need to just continue to fast forward or not watch.

Actually, I believe you have that backward. He was given that name because he takes huge bites and does it with great gusto.
This is not meant as a comment to santorini but just a general comment. Please don't tell me how he has to do that to keep his job. Who knows, but if so, welcome to the real world of employment. It must be so rough! ![]()

I am not a fan of the food shows mainly because I can purchase most of the foods they present where I live. The only time I do buy is for gifts for those in my life who love sweets. I do this at Christmas time , Landies candies.
As far as the hygiene is concerned, there are things which turn me off which I won't get into. I happen to like Steve Doss and wish he would host on his own, I think the nickname David gave him is silly. I rarely watch the food shows so all in all it doesn't bother me but we are all entitled to our opinions and critiques.

Well, they should reign in Mark Charles, he slopped raw chicken sauce all over the set while demonstrating some chicken wing marinade in the foldable plastic bin.
I did buy the smaller square foldable bin with drain that I use to defrost shrimp or hand wash some items or use to wash large amounts of peppers or tomatos from my garden

And it's starting to show. She recently said during a fashion presentation that she is now wearing a large. Rachel's not far behind.
