Re: TRAINING HOSTS SPECIFICALLY

When hiring new hosts, please hire hosts with a pleasant speaking voice.

Re: TRAINING HOSTS SPECIFICALLY

They use to do that. Example Jill knew lots about silver, you never saw Lisa do a cooking show.  Back in the day, Kathy was jewelry, she didnt cook either.  Steve was electronics etc etc.  Youre right,  they all know a little about something but not alot about any one area.  Paul Deasy was gemstones and Judy was fitness.  They all did many shows but they had alot of knowledge.

Re: TRAINING HOSTS SPECIFICALLY

This was done in the past and it worked very well.

Some were placed in categories of particular interest.  Nancy and Antonella in jewelry.  Carolyn in D&C, other casual clothing, pets, and gardening.  David is still in the kitchen and Jane still in shoes.  It's obvious Alberti is very good in decor.  It's clear hosts do better when they have an interest in the category and, as to be expected, become very good and knowledgeable when they specialize.

Then, QVC decided to throw all of them around.  At first they appeared to be clumsy and uncomfortable and to an extent, some still are.

That applies to pairing designers and vendors with compatible hosts.  Martha Stewart appears much more comfortable and opens up with Alberti.  Valerie with Alberti.

IMO, Carolyn is best with Gary Goben, but QVC decided to turn D&C over to everyone.  D&C is on too much for Carolyn to do all the programs, but I have seen her do other categories that were immediately followed by D&C with another host on the same day.

It appeared to me QVC didn't want any of the hosts too closely identified with any of the designers even though they were better and more compatible than all the others with that designer.

There is little point in having a host that cannot accurately relay information on the product they are presenting. They lose credibility if I'm hearing mispronounced words and listening to vendors correcting the hosts. Hosts would be better off sticking to colors and # of itema sold rather than trying to bluff their way through the presentation and displaying their ignorance. But some of these hosts think the hour is about them and not the products and just chatter away. When I am silently correcting them in my head, the jig is up and I quit watching.

^The mispronunication gets me every time!

Mary Beth's mispronunciation of Le Creuset annoys the hell out of me (I know it shouldn't but it does)! It's "luh" NOT "lah".

@Shanus

My opinion? I think QVC should hire you TODAY! 💚

Great ideas! I need more BASIC information in on-air presentations and less chit-chat.

For example, I constantly have to check QVC online DURING on-air live TV presentations to see what the heel height is on shoes, and whether the insole is removable.

Same for jewelry... how hard is it to reveal the DIAMONIQUE carat weight during an on-air presentation? Again, I have to look up the item online to find out CARAT WEIGHT, the most basic of all information.

There's nothing wrong with telling me a cute story, or a style tip, or even whether your Aunt Sarah loves the product, but FIRST please give me the basic information. Just read me the specs on your blue card...there's a ton of information on those cards that viewers want.

I think your post is thoughtful and wise. Good salespeople know their products inside out. Poor salespeople make the customer search online for answers to all their questions.

Lady, get your resume ready! The Q NEEDS YOU! 💜
