Just saw a presentation on HSN a rake reg $41.95 , sale price $39.95. Does that supposed to make you excited to save $1.95. I think it would be better just to present it at the reg price. I know a saving is a saving , but really ? Maybe it was just me being critical.

@MW in Iowa Many people are looking for the word "sale" and don't think. In fact, the number of people who seem to be operating on automatic pilot is alarming.  For example, some years ago I worked in a retail store that had a basket of miniature, brightly colored plastic clothes pins. They were tiny and had no purpose whatsoever. The owner placed them by the register with a sign that said "10 cents each or 10 for $1.00" you would not believe the number of people who stood there and counted out 10.

That an example of sale prices from QVC , just a few dollars off  or they offer free shipping  and the price was raised on the item. QVC is constantly changing prices on items .

For example of a price change, I bought a Isaac top on 8/6 item # A384114 for $37.63 and it's on advanced order with shipping the week of 9/6.  That top was just on tonight with Courtney and Jane for $45.54.  Glad I bought it on 8/6.

Typical retail strategy, it's not just QVC.

That's like saying "under $10 when it is $9.99"

I worked in retail for 40 years , and i am aware of sales tantics , but never noticed it on HSN and QVC in this way. Either it was a reg price or a feature price with a substancial savings , not $1.95.

Many see sale priced and jump on it and don't realize it's only a small bit off - if that.  Look at how many are fooled by sale adds at grocery stores for a special size item that is actually more expensive per unit or oz than regular size or buy 3 get one free and the price per item actually has gone up for the sale so  no real bargain and often more per unit or oz.

Re: Stupid Pricing.

[ Edited ]

Recent example  for me  was that I saw a Joan Rivers  Tartan shirt and thought I would give it a try as I liked the colors and Boyfriend style. The reviews were  not good on this item. The shirt was $67 . The reviews were spot on  as the fabric was like a table cloth  despite being  lovely colors  with a nice pattern . The biggest issue was the button hole that were frayed at the edges and the fancy buttons  were  to big for the  button holes extremely difficult to button/unbutton shirt. Well , the price of the shirt was dropped to $45  the day I received it . I was going to call for a price adjustment , however the frayed defective damaged button hole issue was why I returned the shirt besides the  horrid quality of fabric.  I looked  again at the price listed for the shirt and it's back up to $67 .  This line is  damanding the same prices as say Talbots or Cold Water creek  but poor seamstress work and cheaper fabric.

Many yrs ago I worked in retail and am aware of the markups on items along with " promotional  goods ", however alot of game playing on QVC .

I sometimes treat myself to a bottled black cherry soda at the grocery store. The last time I felt like indulging, I noticed there was a tag on the shelf—the bottles were on sale, two for $3. The normal price is $1.49 per bottle.  Smiley LOL
