Re: QVC to lay off 900 in Florida

Here in GA companies are begging for help. Especially law enforcement

@Estellee    YES, same here with Leah along with Rick. If there is any validity to Antonella's little birdie than the female host will be either Jayne, Jane, Pat, or Leah. However, I can't see Jane hanigng it up before "40 yrs", although she should have an asterik from her taking a year or so off at one pt in the early 2,000's.

The reason I can't see it being her is that QVC just threw her a bizarre 38th celebration and the 40th is quite the milestone, so that is my reasoning that I doubt its her, unfortunately, lol. So, if Antonella is not just making up some story, than it would come down to Pat, Jayne, or Leah.

That's a large number of layoffs and I do feel for the ones losing their jobs.  But this is typical in a merger/takeover.

This happened to me in 1973!  I worked as a secretary in a small brokerage house in NYC Wall St. area.  The company taken over by a larger firm and one Friday at lunch I was dismissed.  I cried and pouted but the following Monday I registered with Kelly Girl office temps.  Had some interesting assignments and one led to a permanent position better than my original job.

My point is a bad situation is not forever and can open doors to other things.

@PinkyPetunia :  Your story sounds a little like mine, worked for a Comptroller at a Florida company and was laid off along with him.  I went back to Kelly Girl (worked there during college), and landed a great job at a large Fortune 500 company.  Best thing that could have happened to me.

This happens all the time and has happened for decades in any industry.  It's not just a "sign of the times" we're living in.  Layoffs, reorganizations within companies have always happened.  It's sad for those people that are laid off, but I'm sure that QVC/HSN gave them a severance package.  With all the layoffs I've seen and been through, people do find jobs and land on their feet again. Some even say it was a blessing in disguise as they went on to find other jobs or careers that they liked even more.

I have been laid off 3 times. Two times the companies were sold. First one I was working 1 mile from my house. And the company was bought out by another similar company. A shady deal with the stock price was discovered with the sale. And there was a stock holders law suit. I was glad I was no longer going to be an employee. The company buying our company disappeared in several years anyway.

Got a job at a company producing promising products for dental issues. They had produced a very successful product. But somehow every time they tired to produce a new batch of product, it failed. Eventually there was no product and LOTS of interest. Quick sale to a company 50+ miles away. Not interested in a 2 hour commute one way.

Third company went bankrupt 3 years ago. Lawsuit wiped out all the company money reserve in addition to employees leaving for the competitors.
