@PA Mom-mom You have a great attitude; however, there are those of us who consider "snow" a 4-LETTER WORD! ![]()
There would be no circumstance on earth that would compel me to live in the NE again, and I know I'm not alone.
However, kudos to YOU and all those who enjoy the 4 seasons! For me, the "seasons" in the NE were summer/winter with a few short weeks of "spring" and "autumn"....

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and I can tell you that winters with snow would not sit well with me. I guess it comes down to what you are used to regarding climates. I can understand why people who live in Florida wouldn't want to move. It probably has nothing to do with Pennsylvania's beauty.

@tansy Florida is redefining child labor laws because the migrants that have been doing low paid jobs have left the state or been deported. The law would allow 14 year olds to even work at night.

Very telling, huh? 🤔

@chessylady I started working when I was 13 years old at a hamburger drive-in. I worked nights and weekends. Oh, my!! I still managed to graduate and go on to college. I worked full-time my first two years in college. When I was doing my student teaching in Lancaster County, PA, some of my students would leave school at 2:45 PM and work a full shift at the Tyson chicken plant, come home and watch Johnny Carson while eating dinner. I wouldn't necessarily advocate for those hours, but it is possible.

I started working at 15 at Ponderosa Steak House, busing tables on fridays and saturdays for about 4-5 hours each day.
It was my choice, I wanted to do it and my friends all did as well, they either worked at Dairy Queem, McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc. Once we all turned 16 we got better jobs..lol.......
We all wanted our own money and wanted cars at 16,etc. My parents were fine with it as long as my grades didn't slip...

@PA Mom-mom Are you aware that adult and minor employees at chicken packing plants lose limbs and even their lives? Only a desperate parent would allow their child to work there. The Florida law even allows no rest periods in an 8 hour shift. Times are different from when you or I went to school. Jobs and housing are hard to find and funding a degree from even a state college leaves decades of debt.

I think that the point that @PA Mom-mom and others are trying to make is that a lot of us worked in our teens (early teens) working at stores, malls, etc. and still went to school and managed to survive. I started at 15 and had to have my dad sign a work permit for me. I loved to work then and still do. The malls closed at 9PM at night and still gave me time to go out afterwards. The downtown stores closed at 6PM and not open on Sunday's which was also nice. Life was different in the 70's then now but every generation is different.
