Are there any presentations that go as consistently awkward as when any kiind of a toy is presented?

Just watched Rick present some glow in the dark rope launcher thingy that was on Shark Tank, and the young man who helped invent it and they didn't work very well together and the entire segme was amusingly ineffective.

Has QVC ever had a hot toy that was in high demand?

Re: QVC and toy presentations

Perhaps I missed something in the short time I viewed the video, but that alleged toy, if we're talking about the string thing, seems utterly pointless. Why would that engage interest for more than ten minutes?

QVCs toy offerings are usually lackluster. I have found some things for my grandkids - like character throws and the hair blinger stampers.  But on the whole, it's better to ask the moms what the kids want.

I just looked it up to watch the presentation. I think the product is strange but Rick did a great job staying engaged, asking questions and participating. The young man was a good s spokesman for the company and did not seem to be nervous on live national tv.

I don't see the issue except it's a weird toy itself.

As a veteran of toy retail. The hot toy margins would never be high enough for QVC to carry.  I was a DM for KB Toys years ago in CT.  Just like QVC, we made the bulk of our profit on the previous seasons' toys because we could sell them comparatively cheap and made high margins.  By the time the fad was over, the manufacturers were desperate to get rid of the inventory to make room for new.

We did get new toys also, but limited numbers per store and very low margins.

This was about 10 years ago, but I still remember it.  QVC offered a puzzle.  Inside a transparent plastic box was a 10$ bill.  You have figure out a way to the bill and have it pop out. This wasn't for small kids, really but for teens and adults.  We had 3 college students as helpers.  We got some stockings and stuffed mostly candy.  We decided to get the QVC puzzles.  We put in a $20.00 bill in each box.  It's easy to open it and put in the money.  What was hard was getting the money out.  While we had a party for the students, they struggled to get the money.  Finally they did.  All three figured it out. It was great.  1st time for my co workers to get something from QVC,  I did the ordering for them.  That was the last time I saw the puzzle on QVC.  We wanted to do it again the next year, but they didn't have it.
