Re: QVC Group CEO: We are an ENTERTAINMENT/Social Media Business

So TPTB finally admit what viewers have been saying would happen.  They are only going to be  online/streaming programming.  Live productions are costing Qurate big money.  Just have to look at their quarterlies and stock price to know that.  Will not miss the live programming and won't watch a retail channel to shop.  I do watch streaming but Not for shopping.  Seems they are coming late to the table with this but better late than never if they wish to stay in business.

Re: QVC Group CEO: We are an ENTERTAINMENT/Social Media Business

With all this over 50 & fab. Garbage, their business strategy is interesting. The customer base is older & many won’t be going on you tube, FB etc. to make purchases & young people won’t be influenced to buy the type of fashion sold on QVC. I’m fairly savvy with technology but am not on FB, Instagram, don’t go to you tube for purchases but do for instructions with problems & I don’t stream, often. I have Prime, love football but won’t watch a football game on Prime. I stream for entertainment when in foreign countries, mostly. So QVC will not be getting my business in those formats. I don’t really need anything so that’s ok.

You are ovviously not the customer they are after, so it works both ways.

Welp, I don't do social media nor do I buy more than once or twice a year from QVC so whatever they decide to do really doesn't affect me other than the occasional tune in.

It's not a slap in the face of the old-guard demographic.  QVC is doing what they need to do to survive.  Will it work in the long run, who knows for sure?  But it's much more certain is that they cannot survive doing what they've done for the past 30 years.  That business model is stagnant.  Pure & simple.

Banks and retailers will soon not accept paper checks.  That's not turning their back on a demographic.  That's modernizing to try to stay afloat, efficient and more secure.

How many people thought they'd never own a cell phone??

It's 2025.

The problem is, QVC needed to do this 5 years ago.  Now they're playing catch up.

I'm happy to see it though.

@Caaareful Shopper, I'm not so sure about that.  Maybe Target won't take them, but a lot of small retailers prefer a check or cash over credit or debit cards.  They'll charge you an extra fee to use your CC or debit card, but waive that fee for cash or a check.  It's why I keep my checkbook in my purse.

@Icegoddess  True, but that's now.  However, like most overhauls, there's a transition period.  It won't happen overnight.  But it's happening.  The manager at my bank last year told me there will soon be no checks.  It's an incredibly old mechanism for funds transfer, and an undue expense for transactions.

I rarely write a check anymore and used to pay everything by check. I have a friend who still goes into brick and mortar stores like Macys, Talbots, etc. to pay her bill in person by check! Some people just don't like or trust change.

Yep.  Many of the small retailers and doctors around my area have started charging for using a debit or credit card.

I also now carry my checkbook and have been writing checks for these services where I used to use my credit card.

My dentist recently started charging a fee if you paid by debit or credit card. I have gotten out of the habit of paying anything by check and haven't carried a checkbook in years. My last visit, I told them to send me a bill as I didn't have my checkbook. They said okay.

I have read recently that influencers are losing their influence.  QVC might be two steps behind with their plans.

Wouldn't that be grand! Teenagers particularly may even learn to chose their own style instead of looking like clones of each other.

Re: QVC Group CEO: We are an ENTERTAINMENT/Social Media Business

My granddaughter in Maryland asked for a particular sweatshirt for Christmas. I asked her for the link to go online. The link was very specific, even to the color she wished for. When she opened it, my other granddaughter from across the country said "Oh, everyone in my school has that one". I realized then the power of influencers. It was a brand I never saw in a mall or heard of but they sure did.

I haven't seen this posted, but how is HSN doing? If shopping channels are going by way of the dinosaur, wouldn't HSN and others channels also be streamlined as well? And if these  channels are doing well, what's their secret?

You almost feel sorry for the hosts that are left, like they're going down with the ship.  Of course, a lot of money can be made playing an endgame, so don't be too sorry.
