@stevieb Yep I'm healing nicely and almost up to snuff......After all our rain, summer seems to have just started here and I'm already sick of it!!!! And it's hot and dry and not even a chance of an afternoon scattered shower....I had to laugh at my DS---we went to lunch yesterday late afternoon and she remarked how she liked the dry heat that we were experiencing---I told her my take was I don't like any kind of heat dry or humid, but it was funny as the day wore on and it got hotter as we went to the bookstore and ran into Target (since I forgot something at the grocery store) she started to whine about the heat....what happened to "it's not the heat, it's the humidity".....LOL! And I agree with you, heat takes all the motivation out of me too........I struggle to get done what I have to do....
As Gina, I and others have commented on this, ....is it our imagination or did the Q bring out their fall clothing a tad early.....school starts in mid August here and the Department Stores have not yet put out their fall wear, yet the Q seemed to have begun the season back in June....perhaps they are not purchasing as much merchandise, especially spring/summer merchandise, could it perhaps be caused by a LACK IN THEIR SALES ???? It was announced that QVC and HSN will show their 2nd quarter results in August---should be interesting reading......
I saw some of the evening VPH Show, and yes it was mostly mercury glass and gazing globes....and I noticed those mercury figurals did slightly resemble those that Thomas Paconni used to have....remember him....a vendor that was scooted out the door by QVC---I have his large nativity set and a beautifully made wooden jewelry case---I guess his items were too unique or perhaps too high quality for QVC....let's bring in tons of flameless candles in varying degrees of quality made by many different manufacturers and then let's bring in the same Christmas decor and ornaments like last year instead (SARCASM)....I know, I know the eggs were beautiful, loved the Christmas tunes Valerie chose, it wasn't that they weren't nice, it was just a case of OVERKILL (a word QVC doesn't have in their dictionary along with the words "variety" and "unique").
Oh yes, Gem Day was out of my price range too, a shame they didn't have MORE affordable and stylish pieces---but nice to see unique gems that have been absent for a long time. The show with Jennifer and Peyton was nice to window shop with......
And with the abscence of LR, and with Lisa M and Carolyn out on leave what does QVC have left in the host department....and those chosen to be pushed out front seem to be irritable, unhappy, frantic, and unable to handle it all........which makes it all the more UNWATCHABLE, which I usually don't do much anymore......but curiosity more than anything had me have it on in the background for CIJ---and hey it is better than some of the so called comedy out there on the other channels, and I'm tired of Golden Girl reruns .....
Talk about REPITITION, their TSV presentations are on even more frequently and more often, (killing more time) ---not selling as expected perhaps, making me use my remote frequently and often......QVC has indeed lost it's luster........and you go throw HSN in that mix too.... I will watch Valerie's evening show, but I think I will save my money and visit that charming shop in Fredericksburg---that shop keeper always has the nicest things, they're my style and they are unique too....yep I'd rather spend my decorating money there......
You know what I think of baseball, but I resorted to watching some of the NBA Summer League (summer Spurs doing well--
) .........well it beats QVC!!! Last year I got a little more involved in college football. If nothing is going on, it's nice to tune in to a college game, which does seem to have more energy, excitement, and spirit, than some of the pro games, and fun to get together and watch with a few friends.......Fall hurry up and get here already!!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and stay cool!
@Spurt I have been an utter slug all weekend, wallowing around reading and napping. I did finally head out last night for an hour or so. I'd seen a pretty ginger jar at Homegood's that I knew my mother would love, but thought it was pricey for what it was so left it behind. But I got to thinking it would be a nice gift for her, so I headed back up to get it and I guess others felt similarly about the the price because it was still there... Otherwise, I guess maybe I'd sleep better at night if I'd quit taking naps during the day! That said, I haven't even been outside today. It's been bright and sunny most of the day, but just opening one of the windows to see what it was like out told me it was ridiculously hot... Don't think so... Dry heat or damp heat, heat is heat and past a point, I don't like it... Yes, fall will be totally welcome.
I fully agree with you about the host contingent... No Lisa... No Lisa... No Carolyn and the few hosts I can still tolerate are rarely programmed... It almost wouldn't matter, though, because they just keep on with the same old things and really, I've been saying it for a long time, but their hens have come home to roost and they truly have pretty much driven me off with the same array of merchandise presented in an endless loop... And I fully agree with you about HSN. I can't remember the last time I even turned it on. I get their emails and delete them without looking. I do have an HSN card and once it's paid off I'll probably not shop there again. A big part of it for all of them comes down not just to such limited options but to pricing that is, in so many cases, just out of line... I was enjoying evine there for a while, but other than the occasional jewelry show, because they do it far more often and with a good bit more variety than does QVC, I rarely watch them either. It truly is a shame the way QVC let jewelry slip from their grasp...
I can't speak to you and Gina's theory about QVC's early unveiling of fall clothes because I honestly haven't been watching enough to know what they're showing... I don't tend to buy clothes from here because I fully resent that rather expensive 'try on' fee they've imposed with their 'new' shipping policy. In fact, I've bought only two things here recently, both jewelry (nothing from gem day) and both are going back... There's nothing really wrong with them other than that I didn't care for them when I saw them 'in real life' and here is the crux of the matter... It will have cost me about ten bucks for the privilege of seeing them in person, only to learn I don't like them. Who needs that? Thanks, but I'll stick with local jewelry options other than in a clear case that I KNOW I will like something. Otherwise, this is simply a too expensive proposition and pretty clearly a waste of my money. I think it terms of that now being twenty bucks that I might just as well have flushed... No. Not working for me.
I just looked to see what Val brought to her early show today and was not impressed. I still plan to catch the late show, or at least part of it, but do miss the days when Valerie wasn't the only home decor QVC had on offer... Of course, whether I stay tuned at all will depend on who is hosting and if it's La Marm, well, all bets are off, just as the show will be... Besides, I'm fully committed this year to not adding a single holiday item to my stockpile. As I've said so many times, I don't even have room to display even a percentage of what I already have and, as you know, my interest in decorating for the holidays is more slim each year...
Take care of that nasty wasp sting and will catch up with you later...
In my pantry with my cupcakes...
