@Desertdi    I can't get anyone in my family interested in having my stuff for free.  I have no idea what to do with it.  I've got several pieces of solid walnut furniture my dad made when he was a woodworking teacher that are beautiful.  You'd think his grandchildren would be interested.

@Kachina624    I truly understand about your furniture.   Right now, I am sitting in a bent wood armchair.....that my dad made from SCRATCH....soaking the wood, etc.    (I was just a pre-schooler when he did this, but I remember it vividly...)      I also have some other pieces of my parents' furniture, vintage 1930's.

My snooty relatives haven't even been to this house.   They don't want to have to get PASSPORTS (!!)      di

Is that a public service announcement?? I think that if someone wants some thing, they're going to buy it. I don't think it's anyone's business, if we stock pile, or purchase items on the Q. Very negative.

Most of us get the gist of what you're saying, but the way you put it is so depressing.

Life is sometimes tough & it is hard for most of us to live a completely spartan life.

@SanFerryAnne - Just my opinion:

One day. . .

My children will probably keep some of my Valerie Parr Hill treasures that they associate with special holidays. The rest they will give away or donate. They will toss the half-used makeup, stained food containers, and broken garden equipment. My daughter will clean my jewelry, keep what is special to her (and possibly share with a future sister-in-law), and sell or donate the rest. My children will donate the clothes, and keep, sell,  or donate the special figurines we have. I don't think my children will mind - one day.

 I did the same - by myself - with my mother's estate.

Until then I will keep enjoying the clothes and jewelry I am blessed to have and wear. I will smile when I look around my home and see the seasonal decorations I love. I will remember when I see a special gift someone gave us long ago. I will enjoy experimenting with makeup, and I will smell the delicious aroma of the body creams I use. I will use a gadget in the kitchen that makes my life easier.

And I will look forward to continuing the life I love, and not obsess about "one day."

I'd give my eye teeth to live in AZ !  Bad roads and all.
