Re: Now wait just one darn minute!

Is there a pre-requisite to being qualified to post? Do you have to watch a certain amount of shows or reach a specific number of posts? Did I miss out on the QVC course degree?

Agree or disagree, but I think that this is open to all. This forum is not exclusive to those who have been around here longer.

Your comment is hilarious! Sometimes I also wonder who they will come up with after they have named each and every family member, including in-laws's in-laws and cousins once or twice removed. Did anyone suggest a gift for the Pope when he was in town?

Gee-I must be way out of the loop.....I've purchased Dooney bags for all teachers, UPS drivers, my hairdresser, receptionists at doctors' offices, grocery store cashiers, postal workers, gas station attendants, and anyone else who might have been kind to me on a certain day......

@nana59  And don't forget your veternarian and the church choir director....

Hey SPURT, actually, I do give my three veterinarians gifts.  Two dog/cat vets, one horse vet.  With having 5 dogs, 5 barn cats and 2 horses, they are very good and kind to me, particularly this year with the sudden losses of my 26year old horse I raised and one of my dogs this past April.  And I give something to my horseshoer since he drives 110 miles to my house, and is worth his weight in gold. Other than that, I don't give anything to school bus drivers (in spite of the fact that I have NO children), or the UPS guy or the check-out clerk at the grocery store, or my doctors/dentist.  I don't even give anything to my boss - he is a cheapskate, anyway.  I do give a little something to my two rural mail carriers, like some holiday chocolate.  We don't exchange at work any more as we have all reached the point in our lives when we don't need any more stuff.  And friends and I don't exchange for the same reason, plus the fact that many have moved out of state and shipping is so expensive now.

But I do agree that the hosts have no concept of how the rest of us live, either by suggesting we give an expensive gift to someone like people at the bus stop, or by urging us to "feel free to buy more than one."   I do a lot better at B&M stores as the "V" in QVC are few and far between. Yes, yes, I  know there are people shopping at Q that have really good salaries and can afford to shop like the hosts suggest, but I am not one of them.

My son and daughter are grown now and I don't ever remember giving teachers gifts or thank you notes for a good job.  I work at a college and the enitre staff gives 100% to students and our supervisors - should we give them gifts too...

Hear hear!  I work at a university and as far as I am concerned, the university considers staff an afterthought.  Everything revolves around the students and faculty and, yes, the point of a college or university is to educate and do research.  HOWEVER,  we all know who REALLY runs a college or university, the staff!  So, no, I don't give a darn thing to my boss.  I like him but he makes WAY more than I do and is a cheapskate anyway.

LOL, about the only people I haven't heard them suggest we buy gifts for is QVC Hosts!  Ya know, we see them most days, they care about us and what we think, since they alway ask us stuff, chat with us on Facebook, tell us all their personal business and want us to like them!  I think the perfect gift for them would be some PooPourri, since they're so full of $#*!

Re: Now wait just one darn minute!

I find it hilarious... even back when my kids were going to school, it was the two of them that gave their teachers some special cookies or candy.  It was FOR THEM to show appreciation to their favorite teachers.  Not me.... as much as I liked and appreciated most of them!

I don't pay attention to most of what the hosts say.... I think (because of their salaries) that they live in la-la land anyway.... lol!

Besides, I think they should be sending ME a little something at Christmas (and my birthday) for helping to support QVC (and them) since the early 1990's..... whatchathink??  A little something from their gift drawer/closet??  Woman LOL

You know, it's really sad that there are probably thousands of people out there - all of whom L O V E the hosts so much - who probably do send gifts to them.  So sad.

I recall hosts with new babies getting tons of things.  I am sure they give most of them to a charity, as they should. But tragic that so many - especially older women - probably spend money they can't afford to spend for a gift for a new baby with whom they have no real relationship. I remember one host was on shortly after a new arrival when a woman called in and said, "I'm the one who sent you the blue booties."  The host graciously thanked her for the lovely booties, but I'd bet she had no idea

who that was, nor what booties she sent.  Really sad IMHO.

Re: Now wait just one darn minute!

I can only imagine the kind of pressure these hosts are under at this time of the year to sell product. That being said, their suggestions are tiresome and ridiculous at times. Our school district does not allow teachers to accept expensive gifts even if all the kids pitch in. Our teachers are so highly scrutinized by the administration and they view gifting as inappropriate.

I can see why.... there might be undue influence by gifting that even sub-consciously might affect grades....

I agree. $50+ for a teacher gift is crazy. I get they are selling stuff, but don't insult us.

I have friends who are teachers. They've amassed collections of coffee mugs and scented candles. Not one $50 gift or handbag!!
