Re: “MENOPOSITIVE”?

I would think we should talk to our doctor rather than listen to a QVC host

Many women do consult doctors.  And, of course, QVC is going to offer products to ease menopausal symptoms, because they are a shopping channel, and some women might purchase them.  Helloooo...

The reason some of us are taking exception to the OP's post (and some subsequent posts) is that the OP was so dismissive to those of us who have had genuine, truly LIFE-ALTERING, menopausal symptoms.  And let me tell you, this OAB (overactive bladder) nonsense is horrific.  And, yes...OAB risks are increased by the loss of hormones during menopause.

To further add to this thought, I just saw my gynecologist last week for yet another vag**** infection, and she said that even though I am taking HRT and vag**** estrogen, these hormones are not like the natural hormones you have before menopause nor are they at the same level.  So even though it is the best that can be done, it is not perfect.

For those who had few to no symptoms, please consider being empathetic with your words to those of us who have suffered and are suffering even while utiltizing the best resources, doctors, and medications out there.

I also did not have bad menopause symptoms. Very easy for me as it was for my friends. Easy for them also.  And guess what,  it is fine to post that.  Everyone is not the same. Posting different experiences is nothing to get your knickers in a twist about.

If I want medical advice I'll go to the doctor's office, I won't be coming to a shopping channel for it.  Watching early on these Lame- 50 and Fabulous, Age of Possibilities shows I knew they were not for me. Just a  cr appy marketing ploy. Judging from the stats it is not doing what TPTB had hoped.  Even lower sales and awful stock price. Seems this marketing of menopause is insulting more viewers than getting them on board.

@Rockycoast the OP was not just posting about her experience. She was very dismissive, cavalier, and non-empathetic to those of us who have had a bad time of it.  No one is upset that she thinks the shows are ridiculous.  "I" think the shows are ridiculous.  lol  But her comments saying that it's not a real thing nor something about which to seek advice are so insulting.

I'm more than happy for any woman who has not experienced what I and several others have.  I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!  As women, we should be supporting other women not posting broad statements painting every woman's menopausal experience with the same brush.

I have found "some" co-workers to use their symptoms as a WEAPON against the rest of the office...

Personally, I was thrilled to death to enter menopause. I had such bad monthly problems I am glad to see the last of them.

For those like myself, that suffer from many of the previously mentioned symptoms.....it can make your every day life change.  It made me reclusive.  I didn't feel like being around others.  I just stayed home to manage the symptoms.  I was blessed that I wasn't working when the worst hit.  So I feel compassion for those that have to work.

Imagine having to look a stranger in the face whilst your face is glowing like Rudolph's nose.  They look at you like you are going to melt!   Plus, it makes the other individual uncomfortable.

I was very lucky as a young woman as my monthly was easily managed with a Tylenol.  But I got whammed with menopause.  It changes more about you and your life (for me anyway) than you can imagine.😞.   So for those that got through it easily,  be thankful.  But try to understand that some suffer for many long hot years.  I too, have stood outside in the snow in a tank top and it was glorious!!!🥵

I experienced extreme bleeding and the onset of migraines.

I went to the doctor, not a shopping channel trying to profit from women's menopause.

The old saying applies: We can tolerate almost anything when it happens by degrees. When it hits at once, it's a different story. I can attest to this.

Most women go through menopause gradually, giving them time to adapt to the change, or perhaps they barely notice changes, but they're there. After all, women are tougher than we're often given credit for. We trudge on, with multiple struggles. Head's high.

In my early 30's, I went into menopause after extensive surgery for endometriosis. I didn't have time to adapt to all the hormonal changes. No hormone replacements allowed for several months since it would feed the endometriosis. It would have been tolerable by degrees, but it wasn't.

No, it was a sledgehammer to my system. I learned firsthand, the significant impact menopause (surgical, or otherwise) has on the body. It was a life changing event. The only positive was eradicating the endometriosis.

Menopause has many documented negative effects on our bodies. Many found relief with hormone replacement, but it was found unsafe, so doc's stopped prescribing. But as with all things, it varies for individuals.

Sometimes I think to myself --- men would never tolerate this mess, while making a joke out of women's struggle. It's not been a joke for many of us.

Edit:  This post needs me to explain.  I am tired of people telling women they need special treatment and are weak and need empowered and petted.  You don't.  Don't let being a woman hold you back, you can empower yourself.  I think this attitude of women need help because women are somehow less than is doing more harm than good.  And it makes me really mad.

Tell women you've got what you need, now use it!

OK, admittedly I have on my cranky pants this morning, so here's my take--exasperation and all:

It's part of the "victim" mentality now.  Poor me I am a victim I need someone to empower me and support me.

Grow up and if you have issues seek help.  We all know help is out there.  If you are embarrassed to go get help, go or don't go.  It's your life and your choice.

Honestly what is wrong with people today? You are a grown woman, get out there and help yourself.  You deserve it.
