I don’t find either one to be acceptable. How do I know what caused the weight loss? It could be some terminal medical condition.

WHy is it ok to say someone has lost weight, but not ok to say that they have gained weight? Saw a host last night who in the outfit she had on looked like she had put on about 30 lbs. No names please.

@Group 5 minus 1  I think I know who you are speaking of, but I think it was the outfit.  The outfit was not a good look for her at all.

If someone had a scar on their face we wouldn't dream of commenting on it.   So why would it be acceptable to comment on any other aspect of someones appearance?

A while back, one of my friends was diagnosed with leukemia and the medicine she was put on caused her to gain weight.

I hadn’t seen her in a couple of years and was surprised when I ran into her a few months ago at Sam’s.

You never really know why weight gain or loss.

I blame my weight gain on retirement and depression because of a loved one.

One of the hosts even mentioned that prescribed medication for her rapid heart beat was causing her to gain weight and she was going to have a procedure done that would eliminate the need for this medication.  I dont know if she had it done and/or the outcome.

Unfortunately there isn’t a procedure for my friend but she is so positive and outgoing which I’m grateful.

It must be someone who is on before midnight!  I have no idea who you're talking about, and I am wracking my brain!

Re: Losing/ gaining weight

[ Edited ]

Society loves a skinny person.

If one knows that a comment will hurt someone, why would they even consider saying it?  It's cruel and viscious.  That's why it's wrong to say anything knowing it'll hurt someone.

Society shames and ridicules a heavier person. Heavier people already tolerate way too many barbs and insults.  To say one gained weight is the same thing to a heavy person.

What about just being nice, taking the high road, and accepting people the way they are?
