Re: Kathy Levine and Monifa

Monifa  wasn't watching Q during Kathy's time. Everyone makes a mistake. This is so overblown... as usual by those who knit pick everything a host says or does.

I don't think Kathy cared at all considering that there are two ways to pronounce Levine and Kathy uses the less common of the two.  Kathy is a reasonable, gracious person who would not find offense in something so trivial.  She'd just correct her after the show.  Yes, people who talk for a living sometimes mispronounce words or names.  Everyone isn't as perfect and error free as you are.

@chrystaltree this is so very true.  To be honest, I have never heard anyone but Kathy pronounce it "La-vin".  Any other time I have heard Levine pronounced it has always been "La-veen", which I believe to be far more common, at least in my experience.

Kathy is a class act, so she would never correct someone on air, unless she made a joke about it.  She has a good sense of humor.

Thank you, @San Antonio Gal.  That's very kind of you.🌻

A host should know and be able to pronounce the name of the vendor they are working with.  Especially when it is an easy name to pronounce.

It's their JOB.

I think it depends on where you are from @GloriBee.  I grew up in Philly and now live in Delaware and the more common pronunciation here  is La-vin.  Never have I heard it as La-veen.  Not a big deal, honest mistake by Monifa and I'm sure she has been corrected lol.

@chlema wow!  Just the opposite!  I never hear it as La-vin!  Guess it is regional!

What bothered me about that show was that Monifa was just rude to Kathy IMO.  She kept interrupting her.  I like Monifa and I love Kathy.  Monifa has to realize that Kathy knows what she is talking about and needs to let her talk.

Just to throw yet another documented pronunciation into the mix.  It always surprised me, but was indeed true, that the late, famous music conductor James Levine, pronounced it a third way--  Levyne, with the long "i" sound.

Thus, so far, three pronunciations of Levine.  Le-VEEN is by far the most common, I believe, then Kathy's Le-VIN,  and I wonder if James Levine was standing all by himself with his name pronounced Le-VYNE...

Not a fan of Monifa but she should have done her "home work!" Just my opinion!

I started a post thread some time ago that I was blasted for regarding pronunciation.  This mistake with a vendor's name is the same.  Hearing words and people's names mispronounced is like nails on a chalkboard to this viewer.  Vocabulary and English should be part of ongoing training for all of the hosts.  Additionally hosts should be given new adjective ideas to use to describe things.  Im sure coming up with new words is a challenge for the hosts.
