Interesting article abuot today's retail world.....and it looks like JCP is on the combeback trail under the leadership of their new CEO.............

I hate to see stores close and people lose their jobs. I don't shop at the stores listed. Some are not near me and others I find are over priced or not my style.

I think retail stores are going to have to completely revamp their lines - I think places like TJ Maxx and Marshall are going to survive, but unless the others change, their history. Sears and Kmart - it's their own fault - they didn't keep up with the styles or times. JCP - I really doubt they will survive.

JCP looks like a ghost town these days

Your right, the TJ MAXX, Marshall, Home Goods stores are doing quite well, while others struggle. When Sears and Kmart merged (both are struggling) that was a huge mistake, and their CEO is more interested in real estate investments than making changes to improve the stores and keep them alive. (all Kmarts here were closed in my city long ago---they were dirty stores and the prices didnt match the quality of the merchandise)...........
Nordstrom and Macy's better watch out---I read that the younger demographic isn't as interested in buying expensive clothes just for the name on the label (prestige clothing as it were--what everyone is wearing and such) as people have done in the past....

@Spurt - I totally agree with you. I think Macy's hasn't kept up with the times either - their clothes don't appeal to me at all - very old ladyish, plain jane. Have never shopped Nordstrom, even when I lived in California and made the big bucks - their snootiness didn't appeal to me.

I have gone to Nordstroms several times (manly at Christmas just to check out their unique Christmas tree ornaments).....but each time Ive gone there the Sales Associates were very friendly.....one Sales Associate even overheard my friend talking on the escalator about something she was looking for....and the Associate piped up what are you looking for, Im on my lunch hour I can take you to that Department..... Personally I've never bought anything there, just browsed---their clothes all seem to be XXS or XS and if you want a larger size (I'm a Medium) you have to order online......
Their clothing is too high priced anyway and I can do better elsewhere.....

I would love a Macy's here.... but all we have is JCP (which is doing better and is carrying nicer merchandise). We also have a Sears and unless they bring in better quality merchandise, I can't see them lasting.
Walking through our Sears is like walking through a tomb, even the Craftsman Tool section is always empty. Older son tells me their once coveted Craftsman tools break easily and are no longer trustworthy. You'd think with a guaranteed life time replacement when they break that it would be cheaper to make them really well and not replace them than to replace all the time....
And their shoes IMHO (at least what we have here) are horrible....

There have been a lot of complaints about Macy's (even here on the Forum) about how messy the stores are and their store setup is rather odd too..........and complaints about the quality of some of their clothing lines. The only thing I've bought recently from them are their Karen Scott t-shirts for summer.............
ITA on Sears..GHOST TOWN!!!.....Craftsman and Kenmore ain't what they used to be....and their clothes have always been awful (at least where I live).........About 4 years ago, as I was walking through the store to get to my car which was parked nearby, I spotted a Rowenta iron on sale (great price) and that was my last Sears purchase.........
