I have already contacted customer service, but still have the same problem!
I purchased a flameless candle with a ceramic base and bird design thing to go over it. I received it and really liked it. When going to unpack it, I had a heck of a time. The thing was packed so tightly into another box, then styrofoam packing, that I could NOT get it out of the box. So I ask my husband to try. He tries, can't get it out, then pretty much rips the boxes apart to get it out.
We put it together, and it doesn't fit. Candle on the base is fine, but the lantern thing over it doesn't fit on the base. It is not a correct fit, and it would be crooked or fall over.
Problem is, I cannot get it in the box to return it. My husband tore apart the boxes to get it out. I contact customer service, and they say, return it. Use another box if original is destroyed. Uh, we don't just have boxes this size laying around! We cannot use it no matter what. I am not trying to rip them off, I thought they might say just keep it and get rid of it. I have bought a lot and don't return much.
Anyone else have an issue like this with what resolution?

Find a box somewhere into which it'll fit. Maybe a shoebox? Get a bigger box and cut and tape it to make it smaller. You'll obviously have to find something. You can buy bubble wrap at Walmart to wrap it in case you don't have that either. I always save a small supply for just such situations.

You can't really expect them to just refund your money without the item being returned. To my knowledge, the only thing they'll do that with is food, which can't be returned. How would they know what was wrong with the item, if it isn't returned? And I believe they would need it to recoup the cost from the vendor. You wouldn't expect a B&M store to issue a refund for an item you didn't return, would you?
Very often things like that are packed tightly to prevent any damage. I've always found that, if I open the bottom and top of the box, I can push the styrofoam out and release the item that way.
Are you saying you don't even have the outside packing box that the item came in? If you do, all you have to do is wrap the candle in anything you have - bubblewrap, newspaper, paper towels - and send it back. If you even threw that away, go to the grocery store. They always have free ones where I am.

Are you returning it to get a replacement? or is it stricly for a refund? If you wish a replacement, we can send you the replacement and you could use the packaging to return the other item. If it is a refund, would it fit into a padded envelope from the post office?

@hyacinth003 Can you take the item to a UPS store? They will package/ship anything you bring in.

The UPS store sells boxes.

I shop at QVC enough that I always have a spare box or so hanging around. The UPS Store would be expensive to get a box or to have something packaged.
@Venezia That was a funny thought "I would like my money back on this." "Where is it?" "Well, I didn't like it, so I would like my money back. Why do I have to go to the trouble of dragging it back in with me?"

I sure understand your frustration because by the time you buy (or find) another box, make sure you have enough bubble wrap and insulation to make sure it doesn't get broken, or take the item to a UPS store plus paying shipping to return and you've spent a quite a bit more money for this thing .... when putting it together was manufactured wrong~!! QVC should be responsible because they buy from these manufacturers that are not top of the line!
It has become a chore IMHO to buy something like this from QVC. I rarely buy home decor from the Q because of this. I still buy kitchen items, but really debate whether ordering lanturns/lights/Parhill items will be worth it to me.

Thanks for understanding.
This has all been SO NOT WORTH IT. I think it all comes to around $25 with shipping and all. It was a "lunchtime special," so I didn't pay full price. BUT STILL, there has been NO convenience in buying this. It is a larger piece of ceramic, and with the styrofoam packing (which I have), it requires a larger box. THEY pack it so tightly so as not to have the ceramic break. Now the customer is stuck with trying to remove it and also preserving the box IN CASE they send it back. Then you're told to find your own box to return a defective item.
H207678 is the item number, and other reviews have said it didn't fit. Obviously not all are defective, but some are.

H207678 is the item number, and it is too large to fit into a padded envelope.
Even if I get a replacement, it is still a hassle for something NOT the fault of the customer. And with other reviews stating it didn't fit, I might get another one that is defective.
But, yours is actually a good idea, to try to preserve the other box!
The point is, other reviews have also stated that it didn't fit. So they know there is a problem with this product. I have no history of trying to cheat QVC. I guess I feel this is more hassle than I DESERVE as a long time customer with many purchases. I guess I felt discretion would say sorry, and refund the money. Nothing funny to me about it.
