I don't think the "merger" of QVC and HSN will help us as consumers.  I'm watching less of each channel now too.  They really need to do something about the shipping costs.   I ordered a small item (less than $5.00) from Amazon Thursday night and it will be here tomorrow (Sat.)  Shipping--free.         I had an over $50. item  ordered from QVC on Aug. 26 and paid a shipping fee and it was shipped today--Aug. 31 so  I probably won't receive it until after Sept. 10.

Thank you for the article. Very interesting reading. We are all seeing some of the changes but it was good to see actually what will be changing. My son and DIL both work in corporate offices for retail chains and Amazon is just killing everyone.

This is so  true -- that Amazon is putting a lot of retailers out of business.  Not only that, customers can be extremely rude about it.  Without giving too many details, I will just say that we are in sales.  My husband has seen customers find what they want from our selections, only to order from Amazon while standing in front of him, and announce proudly that they did so.  We have to PAY to be where we are selling and pay all our expenses whether anything sells or not.  It costs a lot of money to ship the merchandise.  If every customer saw what we had and ordered from Amazon, we would not be there to show what is available.  I understand trying to save money.  I do not understand being so rude as to announce you are ordering from somewhere else, and even tell other customers in the vacinity to do the same.  Beyond rude.

Hang in there, because one of these days---

1. Someone will declare them a monopoly and break up their little party......

.OR..

2.They are not going to be able to handle the delivery expectations as they drive more and more local retailers out of business.....Cant wait to see what happens during the Holidays....will they be able to keep employees they already work to death with more and more unfavorable working conditions to meet customer demands....

My brother and I talk about Amazon frequently. We both love to purchase items from them, love prime, and the variety of items offered.  My concern that I have shared with him is that they are getting too big for their britches, trying to offer too many services and bordering IMO on a monopoly. I believe if they keep it up they will be broken up as well.

Doesn't QVC already have an entire channel for beauty? (I never watch..I can get anything beauty related locally for a better price, plus I get bored staring at presentations.) Also, Shawn has her show where she shows enough beauty. I don't have the interest and QVC doesn't have room to put more beauty on tv.

I will always be more of a home/decor person, I think.

I was thinking  the other day that many of us shop Amazon all the time without "seeing a long presentation" of the item(s).   All the theatrics on QVC aren't really necessary in many cases.    I'm disappointed in the merger as far as HSN goes.  I see that the free shipping they offered before is now gone.  Also, been noticing even though I am home most days, I seldom watch QVC more than 10-30 minutes all day.  Before I kept it on many hours a day.  Buying less too.

I am an avid Amazon shopper. In fact, as things occur to me to buy I put them on my wish list, and then once a month I will purchase whatever is on my list. However, as much as I love Amazon there are certain things that I would not purchase from them that I have purchased from QVC/HSN. Laptop, Mattress, purses, and several other items. I needed the on-air demonstration before I clicked buy.

I wonder sometimes if I am one of the very few that do not really care about shipping. Don't get me wrong, if it's free shipping that's great. However, I always make my decision on the price of the item. If it's close in price to what you would pay in a B & M store then I guess the shipping decision can tip you in either direction, but for the most part what does the item cost.

I shop Amazon a lot and like their fast delivery.  I have bought very few beauty/cosmetic items there also only one clothing item and  a few pairs of shoes and most shoes were returns.  I think they are causing a lot of small, local stores to close which isn't good.

I agree the 20 somethings aren't watching QVC, or any shopping channel, but I disagree they don't have the money to spend.

Over the years, it has been proven that no matter how bad the economy our your own financial situation, women continue to spend money on beauty items.

I have several friends with kids varying in age from early 20's to late 20's.  None of them are buying drugstore make-up. They are all buying and wearing the higher dollar color cosmetics.

Factor in, too, the use of social media and blog detailing the steals & deals so that they may acquire said beauty product at an attractive discount… these folks are utilizing strength in numbers to stretch their spending power to its maximum.

doesn't QVC have an entire station devoted to beauty? Why put more on another station if the 20+ are not flocking there to buy already...yawn. I won't buy beauty on either station - Amazon, yes, because usually the shipping is free and sometimes so are the returns. I think they still are missing what makes Amazon work.

I’m a Licensed Esthetician and can say with confidence that there is no better place to buy over-the-counter beauty products than QVC & HSN. They offer the best prices by far! Three Perricone MD products for $199...need I say more? Now, having said that and being a licensed professional, professional beauty products are the way to go!

I don't like all the "repeat" shows on all three Q channels and now HSN offers the same  brands but with different reps. and, of course, their own hosts.   Too much of same ol' stuff now.  Also, since the "merger" HSN doesn't offer all the free shipping they did before.    Will look for sales and discounts on other sites, department stores, etc.
