Re: Broaden Vocabulary!

[ Edited ]

Well, Gary was saying you don't get "FOMO" from a top he was selling...and I had to look that up in the "slang" dictionary...

(I still didn't quite get the connection.)

He has become just about the worst host on QVC for that exact issue. Very limited vocabulary. Constantly repeating the same few statements over and over and .....

"This is........ what it's all about"  (huh?)

"This is........ exciting" (Not really)

"This is........ amazing" (Not really)

He should not be mentoring anyone, anymore.

This is lovely.

Even says it when he's selling food.

@Desertdi  FOMO is slang for Fear Of Missing Out. It's been around for a while.

Silly, but he's trying to sound like the younger group, I guess. My opinion.

It is the ongoing dumbing down of the country and the world, imo. Many people in high levels of the country and business speak in the same elementary manner. People were just complaining about how Amy S. speaks just 2 days ago I believe and other overused sales pitches, phrases and words they all use on Q.

@ajsidney12 Parents now don't put much emphasis on education and kids can't read and don't read.  They play soccer, basketball, football, baseball, softball and anything else every night.  Their heroes are illiterate, and are rich and famous so that's what them and their parents want.

And the music they are allowed to listen to?  Trash.

I don't see it changing.

@Sooner not all parents feel this way, but I know what your are saying. Education is very important in this household and our immediate communities, but when a goal for a kid when you ask "What do you want to be when you grow up" is "to be an influencer" rather than a teacher, a doctor, anything else...that says what these "influencers" are really doing. And I do partially blame them for bringing down the priority for education, they have a platform that can be used for spreading positive information instead of endless brain rot game run throughs and "get ready with me." Many of them became famous as kids, some bailed out of high school and most that I have seen did not go to any post high school education. Please note, this does not mean everyone has to go to college, just that many just stayed in social media and do not encourage education, behaving or speaking properly, that I have seen. (See; so many stupid TikTok trends where people actually get hurt or die).  Usually though, they are busy yelling at a screen, yelling at each other, speaking very loudly and just in general acting like buffoons (not all, but many).

@ajsidney12 You are spot on.  Little ambition now to be a doctor, mechanic, business owner, teacher, insurance agent, etc.  Kids are fed the fantasy life and not real life.  Not a thought to what a community needs to thrive and provide a good living for the folks in it.

David is on rote all the time now. I can't watch him anymore. He gets the job done, but I believe it is hard for him to truly be interested. Paul Hollywood was on a couple of weeks ago promoting his latest book.

David seemed indifferent. He was respectful, but not truly interested. Paul Hollywood is one of the best bakers, in my opinion of the last 15 years. I have two of his books. I bought this book as well.

@speaz

You left out...."This .....is.....Extraordinary!!!"

Usually uttered many times about the most mundane products....like plastic drain stoppers or Poo Pouri gift sets.
