I have some questions regarding a new cat:
Do you feed a new cat the same brand of wet and dry cat food that she is used to (in this case, Friskies canned 2 times a day and Nutrisource cat and kitten dry, left out 24/7)? If you want to change out the wet and dry food, do you combine a bit of both, or do you start off with the new?
Do you use the same litter she is used to (in this case, Scoop Away clumping litter)? How do you go about changing the litter if you want to try a different brand?
I have arthritis, so I'd like to try a light-weight litter. I also don't have room for 40 pound bags of litter, but I could use litter in a smaller container that I could handle. What litter do you suggest I use (I've read that it's best to use an unscented litter, but I don't want odor). I plan to scoop the litter box 2 x day. I plan to start with an open litter box. I have an area where I can put the box that is pretty private.
Do you take your cat to the vet for deworming? How and when do you determine that your cat needs deworming? What product do you use? In the case of the cat I'm interested in, they use Anthelban, but only if the cat gets the runs. I understand they have fed her raw chicken (I won't be doing that). Could that cause the runs? Also, how do you clean her bottom if she does get the runs?
Do you recommend taking a new adult cat to the vet for a wellness check shortly after I get her home? I'm thinking it might be a good idea, so the vet will have her history. I'm supposed to get information on what shots she has had and when.
Sorry for all the questions, but I'll be a new cat mommy, and I want to do my best for her.
