Another question:  What do you do when you need to vacuum your floors and furniture? Do you need to put your pet in another room? Would I confine my cat to my small bedroom (den) while I vacuum the rest of my apartment, then put her in my bedroom and close the door while I vacuum the den?  I'd think the sound of a vacuum would be scary for a pet.

I did see a show awhile back on Animal Planet where the family had a Roomba vacuum, and one of the cats was riding the Roomba.  It was so funny!

I live in a very small two story cottage so whenever I do vacuum the kitties just high tail it upstairs and stay there until I'm done.

In your case I think that your idea of putting your kitty into another room with the door closed is purr-fect.

Re: THE PET CHAT CORNER FEB.15 - FEB. 21

@beastielove - I've already checked out the grooming salon's reviews, and they are all good.  The woman who runs the salon uses all organic products.  If the cat's hair gets greasy or dirty, I may take her to the salon for grooming.  I also thought having her bathed every couple months might keep dander down.

Because I've been concerned about allergy reactions (haven't had any so far), I asked for some hair samples from combing her.  I got the bits of hair and put it between a pillow protector and a pillowcase, and slept on that pillow the other night, and didn't have any reaction at all.  I also have been rubbing the fur, putting it on my skin and up to my nose, and have had no reactions.  Many years ago, when I had allergy tests, the results showed a mild allergy to cats and dogs.  I had another set of tests last year, and was told I didn't have any significant allergies.  So, I'm not expecting to have allergy reactions to her.

She already has a name, and I may want to change it.  However, since she's 5 years old, and has always been called by that name, it may be best to just leave it.  However, I'd like to call her Coco, since she is a chocolate Persian mix with copper eyes.

@beastielove - Thanks for the recommendation.  I'll just put her in whatever room I'm not vacuuming and close the door until I'm done vacuuming the other rooms.

I think most cats and dogs don't like vacuum cleaners -- mostly because of the noise.  It seems cats don't mind the Roomba, because I saw a few videos on-line of cats riding the Roomba.  I certainly don't want to spend the money for a Roomba, since I already have an upright and a hand-held vacuum cleaner.  I just hope the ones I have are good at picking up cat hair.

Re: THE PET CHAT CORNER FEB.15 - FEB. 21

I stopped at the pet grooming salon that's less than 1/2 mile from where I live, just to check it out.  There were two poodles being groomed.

I asked what they do when they have a cat to groom.  The woman who owns the salon said they would set up an appointment to only groom my cat (no dogs).  That was good to know.

The salon was very clean, and from what I could see, the dogs were very comfortable being groomed.  I was told if my cat was not happy being groomed, they would stop and let her relax before continuing.  There would be two of them doing the bathing and grooming.  I may never need this, but it's good to have a place to take her to be groomed, if necessary.
