I had an American cocker who I had to put down at 14 years, who never barked. She would squeal sometimes, but never barked. She had the softest fur, and was a pretty blonde. she had a sroke. Never got another dog.

If I remember correctly, he's half or fully Golden and most are really not barkers.

Wish my new neighbor's dogs (3) could come take lessons from you Clancy. They bark the whole time they are left outside. I'm a cat person so don't know much about dogs.

One of our dogs rarely barked.

If he was playing or mad at his siblings he would go "aruff."

Maybe he just felt it took so much vocal effort to bark. Our girl barked at everything outside or that she saw from the window.

I have a Westie too.  Aren't they great dogs?. We walk 2 miles in the morning, so he's tired when he gets home and doesn't bark too much.  If he doesn't get his walk, he hangs out at the window and barks at every passing dog, but he never barks in the car.  He's 12, getting some arthritis so he's on meds, Galliprant.

I love your dog's name; kind of sounds like a sharpshooter from the old West.

I had a dog who was several months old and hadn't barked. Then one day he did, and he scared himself. So it took another day or two until he figured out it was himself that made that noise! It was so funny. He had a very ferocious sounding bark but if he got near you, he'd lick you to death. He loved EVERYBODY!!!
