I would look up what the prices were selling for on Ebay. Then add it up to see what the value comes to which I am sure would be a decent amount since you say you have a lot.  Then I would take it to a consignment shop and see what they have to say.  You, already, have an idea of the value of each piece, so you would be able to compare it to their estimate.

There is an organization called Jewels for Hope here in Denver that accepts donated jewelry.  It is part of the Children's Juvenile Diabetes foundation that continues to research a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.  The money we raise goes to research and to kids that can't afford insulin.

We sort the jewelry, price it and have a monthly sale.

There may be something like that in your area hopefully.

@crazycockermomThere is an organization that takes unwanted costume jewelry.  It is called I Have Wings.  They refurbish the items and sell to fund their breast cancer programs.  Just do a google search and it should come up.  You just package the items and send them to the organization.

I have a lot of costume jewelry and am planning on doing this.  At least it will be going to a good cause.

That is a wonderful idea.  Thank you!   If I am going to donate it, I'd like for it to at least go to a good cause.

In my small city, we have an Active Adult Center.  The center focuses on social activities for those retirement age and older.  They ask for donations of costume jewelry, scarves, purses, wallets, etc. once a year for their yard sale.  All the sales goes towards the center.  Perhaps there is something similar close to you.

That is a great idea as well. I will look into that.  I'm in FL, there is bound to be some place like that here!

Our local shelter for battered women has two stores that sell donated clothing.  I'm going to donate mine there.........and take a tax write off as it's a 401C(3) organization.  The allowance for jewelry is $3-$6 per item.

Ha.....I did a search on a necklace and realized I was donating one that was worth a bit more money.......so I pulled it out, then I decided to pull out a pair of earrings......slippery slope.

I donated a lot of clothing to the local women's shelter not long ago.   They don't have a store.  The clothing goes directly to the women.   I could see if they'd want jewelry too.

@crazycockermom I am puzzled by your query about whether anyone looks at this forum anymore. What made you raise that question? I think thousands of people look at it daily.

Yes I meant the Linea forum specifically.   I didn't know if anyone would even see my question if I posted in this section.

That is a smart idea.   I could see how much I could get for it and if it isn't very much, then I think I'd rather donate it to a good cause.

I took a big box full to the Salvation Army last week, and have more to take soon.  I also just threw some of it away.  It wasn't anything anyone would want not or was in bad shape.

Next week a bunch of Lenox China goes.
