I've had great luck with reconditioned items from good companies. I have 2 reconditioned iPods anda reconditioned TiVo.

I would do a reconditioned Vitamix if I wanted one.

The reconditioned Vitamix machines (purchased directly from Vitamix) are a great bargain and I would not hesitate to buy one. Vitamix not only reconditions the machines to make them just like new, they package them with a brand new container and tamper, as well as new cookbook, literature, and DVD.

I've heard ALL good about Vitamix manufactured reconditioned machines. I wouldn't buy it from a lesser retailer, though. I'd be sure to know that it was factory refurbed by the Vitamix company.

I didn't know about this when I got my new one from Vitamix, but I would not hesitate to buy reconditioned from them in the future. Well, my Vitamix will outlive me but just in case... Smiley Happy

After much debate I finally did it! Been wanting a Vitamix for quite some time. Feedback here helped me.

Almost went with the last TSV but couldn't do it without the variable speed. I got a 5200 for $299 http://gotgreensrevolution.com/reconditioned-vitamix/ I can't wait to use it!

That is an excellent article, and very useful for those who are weighing the pros and cons of variable speed versus two-speed Vitamix machines.

I think an additional important consideration is that you can always pick up a dry container for your 5200 if/when you decide you want one. However, if you buy a machine without the variable speed control, that's permanent... there's no way to add the variable speed control to a two-speed machine.

Vitamix machines have a very long life... it pays to get the machine you really want with the features you really need.
