Stay away from Maytag - not what it used to be.

Just bought a Bosch dishwasher this morning. It was highly recommended by my repair person.

I would check Consumer Reports online. There is a fee to see rating.

I'd stay away from Sears appliances.  Even though they're another well- known brand, cheaper construction - and, believe me, there service leaves everything to be desired!  Had a Bosch - best d/w ever.  Before that one had a Maytag - nothing special.  Now, got a Frigidaire Gallery - very good:  Bosch was the best and also the most costly.  I've subscribed to those reviews before, but what they relate as the best differs greatly is you read customer reviews.  Got a Whirlpool fridge - so far so good.  Had a GE before that - wouldn't brag about it.  Best stove ever had was my Jenn-Air.  When moved, got a GE - also very good, but can't do as much as the Jenn-Air.  Had Kenmore, GE washers/dryers.  Now have a Bosch - excellent machines.  Do have a Kenmore microwave downstairs and, I must say I  like it better that the one upstairs (over the stove) which is a LG.  Also, made the mistake of having a service contract/warrranty with Sears at one time - NEVER AGAIN!

I have been told by appliance dealers that there is no real  difference in any of the mid-line brands.  They are all made basically the same.

I always stayed with Whirlpool. Guy that replaced a heating element in my Kenmore oven said they're all junk today. His exact statement when I asked what was the best brand:

"junk or worst junk"

Ouch ! guess I'm up the creek

i agree with you. i have a 7 year old maytag dishwasher and so far it has had a thousand dollars in repairs including control board, door latch, hose essemble, and had a new motor put in. and right now i can only change cycle and options when it wants to. thank god i had a service contract that covered repairs. except last repair because it happened right affter contract exspired and a new contract they want 669.00.  i told them forget i. i can buy a new one for that price.

Those brands you mentioned sound good to me.

For the dishwasher - my best recommendation is to choose one that is QUIET.  I remember having dishwashers in the past that made so much racket it was anxiety-making.

The one we have in this house is a Kenmore and it's very quiet.  Truth be told, I wouldn't mind having a newer one with a stainless steel tub but this one, that was in the house when we bought it over 15yrs ago, still works great so I'll make do.

I have a GE electric stove (also from previous owners of house) and I wouldn't mind having a much newer one with the invisible kind of electric burners but, again, this one still works great so I just put these cast iron (painted black to match my black stove) burner covers on it so, at least, it looks better than nekkid electric coil burners.   You couldn't pay me to get a gas stove!

For microwaves, I've done super well with Sharp since the 70s (only on my 3rd one and one of those I gave away in perfect working condition just so I could get a newer one with pads instead of dials).

I have a Maytag refrigerator and it still works great.  It used to be a very well-thought of brand but a lot of folks here don't seem to like the brand.  It's only a little over 15 years old, though.

I have a 14 yr Kitchenaid dishwasher, GE microwave & GE gas stove and no problems.  Also have a 7 yr old Maytag French Door frig with no problems.
