I had my family's xmas party/game night on Sunday----made tried and true recipes---bread in my bread maker--a baked pasta dish and a truly wonderful kielbasa-cabbage-spud soup out of Bob Wardens p/c cookbook----made everything many times before--and all were a complete and total flop!!! For some reason, even tho I followed instructions--right ingredients and amounts--correct baking times/temps--- they all were horrible----tried to save some of it--but ended up tossing it all. Thank heavens there was alot of food there---but dang it--so much $$ in the trash. My cooking mojo must be on a break----![]()

I hate when that happens, and I have to think that if one cooks a lot it has probably happened to them as well. At least it has to me, and I always wonder WTH went wrong. I'm so sorry you suffered thru it, big hugs to you!

more details of what went wrong- I can't imagine that none of those yummy sounding dishes turned out right?? Hugs

@wagirl I am so sorry that happened. How disappointing.
This won't make you feel any better, but my oven/stove went on the blink twice while having people over for Thanksgiving dinner and Easter dinner.
First, my oven kept turning off all by itself so my food was delayed and not up to par because it was not cooked evenly.
Then when it was time to make the sides, my electric burners would not turn on. I had to use the mircrwave and a portable buffet cooker.
These electronic stoves with complicated motherboards are wonderful until they are not.
The food was okay, but not perfect and not done at the same time. I was so mad.
Right before this Thanksgiving this year, I bought a new stove because I couldn't replace the motherboard in the old one. They don't make motherboards for my model anymore. A used one was $1200 and no guarantee of how long it would work.
My family kinda forgot about the incident, but not me. I am happy everything was okay for you in the end. Sometimes life sends you curve balls.
If your family had fun at your place, your party was successful.

I've been cooking since I was 4 and have recipes that go back many years.
Sometimes they're a flop too! So strange.
Most people appreciate home cooked food and I'm going to guess you were your worst critic? Bet some if not all liked the food or at least the effort ![]()

@wagirl Don't be so hard on yourself! We've all had cooking and/or baking flops. My guess is that you, as another posted, were your harshest critic. As long as everyone had a good time, and it sounds like they did, I would put it behind me and not give it another thought.

I do not consider myself a good cook. For just my husband and myself my cooking is good enough but I never want to have guests over for a home cooked meal and I just don't think anything will turn out good enough.
My husband's brothers are in for Christmas and don't have anywhere to go today for Christmas Eve dinner. I wish I had thought of it earlier, but I probably should of had them over to our house for dinner. I would of had to do some "test" meals weeks before to see if I could make something decent. Oh well...........maybe next year.
@wagirl, sorry your meal did not turn out as good as you would of liked.

@wagirl. I don't really cook much anymore and find that I've "lost my edge" in the kitchen, so don't feel badly. I think we take for granted many of the techniques we developed over years then forget.
I remember my mom complaining about the same thing. She said everything she touched in the kitchen turned into a big mess.

as with any project .. if my hearts not in it .. it does not turn
out well ....
But have a merry anyway ....

@rockygems123. Try doing what I do, blame it on the altitude.
