@Icegoddess - Thanks for your reply. I'm not a big biscuit maker, either, but when I get a request for some, buttermilk is absolutely necessary. My grandfather used to drink buttermilk as well; there are dozens of grandkids who are still shuddering after he encouraged them to give it a try.

@Carmie - Thanks for your reply—glad it's available for some people. It seems like I'm definitely going to need to at least try buttermilk powder for a couple of recipes to see how things turn out in case this "shortage" ever happens in my area again.

Our Walmart has it thank goodness.  My dad doesn't drink regular milk and would come undone without his cup of buttermilk at night lol.🌸

Can I use sour cream instead of buttermilk?

Yes, you can substitute sour cream!

Thin it with milk or water to get the right consistency. For each cup of buttermilk needed, use 3/4 cup sour cream and 1/4 cup liquid.

Editor's Tip: Sour cream has a higher fat content, so this will result in richer-tasting foods.Aug 13, 2023

Oh yuck!  I can't even drink " regular" milk and never have...not even as a child.

Funny you say that because my dad has never liked regular milk or "sweet milk" as he calls it lol.

@loriqvc :  We live very close to Texas/Louisiana line so there has been availability when I have needed it. The few times I have tried the "quickie" buttermilk theory I have definitely been able to tell a difference.

@Zhills - Thanks for your reply. Sometimes, it's texture I am looking for when using buttermilk in a recipe, but most often, the buttermilk flavor is what I need.
