Some of my other pet peeves are dishes left sitting on the counter.
Dirty or clean???
Another is liquid on the counter.....why and what is it? Just water?
I also like everything in it's place. Condiments on this shelf, pots & pans in the cabinet, neatly stacked (only 2 high).
This has been a really fun thread! Thanks for your posts...keep them coming!

Mine is when someone puts dishes in the sink! Are they going to transfer themselves to the dishwasher? No. Or start scrubbing themselves? No, they are not.
I agree, especially visiting family. The dishwasher is right next to the sink, put them where they belong!!!
I stayed with a good friend of mine & her now ex-husband when I was between houses about 10 years ago. After dinner, she'd pile all the dirty dishes & pots in the sink & fill them with water to soak & walk away. She said she'd load the dishwasher, which was next to the sink, in the morning & run it. It drove me nuts to just go to bed with dirty dishes sitting in the sink, so I started rinsing all the stuff & load the dishwasher & run it, so the dishes were clean in the morning. She started calling me her "Magic Kitchen Fairy", because the counters were cleaned off & the dishes loaded & the DW running when I went to bed! (it was the least I could do, since i was a guest in their home for about 3 weeks)

One of my kitchen pet peeves is when my husband tries to "help" by putting dried dishes away...and puts them in the wrong spots. I think I spent 10 minutes looking for the colander one night for the cooked spaghetti! I hate to say anything because he meant well...
another thing he does that bugs me to no end is leaves wadded up paper towels on the counters....uses them to dry his hands, wads them up and leaves them there....it's only a 4 foot walk to the garbage, yet he always does this!
I'm sure I probably do things that bug him too, but I make a pretty nice dinner for him just about every night, so he dare not complain!!!

A couple of years ago a co-worker asked me to come to her house and help her. I didn't know how dirty she was until I got in the house. I didn't know where to start, but I went to the kitchen. Dog feces all over the floor. Dishes and junk all over. Started taking the dishes out of the sink so I could get a sink of hot water to soak things. There was a huge live snail living in the sink. You get the picture. The rest of the house was even worse.
I used to work with a woman who came to work & actually told us she had found a live snail in her & her husband's bed & she had mice running around on her kitchen counters. Needless to say, no one ate anything she'd prepared at home when we had office potlucks!

@Sooner wrote:Sorry, but sometimes I'm going to live life for awhile or rest awhile after I have company and let the dishes sit in the sink awhile. If it is Saturday, we've had breakfast and want to go to the farmer's market, the dishes will entertain themselves in the sink until we get back.
It's not a habit and a routine thing, but it doesn't bug me if we are going to go somewhere in a hurry and the dishes reside in the sink while we are gone. Do they sit there all day? Certainly not. Overnight? No. After supper (the kitchen gets cleaned and closed after dinner), but for a while sometimes during the day? Nope. I won't worry about it. Too many fun things to do sometimes and a movie isn't going to wait for me to put them in the dishwasher.
Ditto!
I guess I'm laid back that way too. Most stuff doesn't bug me.
EXCEPT, just last week 2 of my sons came to visit for a week or so.
One is a total neatnik/clean freak which cracks me up, BUT, he decided that the flow of stuff in all the kitchen drawers would make more sense if they all got moved around.
So, when I was cooking dinner or whatever, and would automatically reach for something, it wasn't there! Aaaaargh!
Where was the grater? Where was the dam silverware??
I moved it all back & said 'sorry, but it ain't workin; for me.'
I guess that'd be my pet peeve. LOL!

@marky wrote:Not a bad thing but just something that I don't understand---my hubby seems to forget which drawer the knives are in. They have been in the same drawer for years and he still opens the wrong one to put a knife away. LOL The only thing that really peeves me is that he will wash dishes (and does a wonderful job) but he refuses to wring out the dishcloth. He just leaves it in a wet mess in the sink. Then when I come home, it's wet and cold and yucky. If that's the only thing that he does that peeves me, I'd say I'm one lucky woman !!
I think we are married to the same man.
My husband always leaves the wet and soapy dishcloth in the sink. He's really good about washing the dishes and then putting them back in the cupboard, but that dishcloth doesn't get the same treatment.
I'll rinse it and then put it on the side of the sink. Later on in the evening he might use it to wipe up something and then bam back into the bottom of the sink it goes.
Just like you, I figure it's such a small thing and not worth making a big deal out of.
@J Town GirlOh my gosh!!! We married cousins!! Mine will clean the sink out but the dish cloth is always Sopping! Cold! Yucky!!! (maybe they think it keeps them from smelling sour?).

What bugs me is when someone rinses off their dish and leaves food sitting in the strainer.

lol. i do dishes from loading and unloading dishwasher to anything by hand and i do it because i like doing it.i dont allways put stuff away where she keeps stuff. that would be her pet peeve or she keeps refrigerator neat. i sometimes put stuff in there where ever i can fit it.

I don't like crumby countertops. I mean, literally "crumby". If you make toast, whatever, please wipe up the crumbs.
Also, I hate having sticky and dirty marks all over the fridge handle. Yuck! If you have goop on your hands, wipe them off first before touching everything.
Jars of any kind that are not wiped around the rim. Peanut butter, mayonaise, jelly - any jars that have the ingredeints smeared all around. This is gross. Please wipe off when you are finished.
Trash over-flowing in the trash bin. If you see it over-flowing, don't keep cramming more stuff in it!!!
Water and other liquids splashed all of the faucet and sink and all around. Dry the area off. This makes the kitchen look unkempt.
Same thing for the floor. You know when you are dropping things or spillng things. Don't just walk away and leave it. Take a second and use a wet papertowel and wipe it up.
If you take it out of a cupboard, then put it back.
