Pumpkin Biscotti! Yum!!

We love the pumpkin cream cheese from Trader Joe's. It's great on a bagel. We finally got to try the cookie butter ice cream and it's very good. I wasn't going to try the pumpkin ice cream but it has a lot of sugar in it. There isn't a Whole Foods close to us, but probably wouldn't shop there b/c it's a LOT more expensive than Trader Joe's. The people who work at TJ's are always helpful and friendly to us. It's not an odd store at all IMHO.

I never fail to wonder what I am missing when I ever go to my local Trader Joes. I have a store about 2 miles away and have really tried to shop there. The place is always bustling with people. I walk around and just don't see the appeal of this store. Reading these posts in this thread really doesn't entice me either. I don't eat nor do I buy junk food. I guess I continue to shrug and shake my head wondering what the appeal is for this grocery store.

Healthful items would not be in packages hiding their ingredients, nor would they blur their interpretation of what is GMO and nonGMO.

Edited to add: The Whole Foods prices are LESS expensive in comparison. Do it yourself. If not, I'll even take the time to list the items, side-by-side to like and similar products. For what I specifically buy (not whim "oh, lookie here, this looks good!" shopping).

That is a fact, for me.

My husband and I are exercise and healthy eating followers but it doesn't mean that on a holiday we don't splurge a bit. Most of the time I make everything myself but There are specific products that we like from TJ's. I will admit that the majority of my shopping takes place in Whole Foods, Mrs. greens, STOP & SHOP and my local organic produce market.

I find both stores friendly a far as personal. WF too pricy. Both stores snobby people in my area. Rude, no manners, no smiles,. AN ATTITUDE. Another TJ a few miles in another direction, not so much. Depends on location. We use to call them EARTH COOKIES. Hippies all grown up. I love the food at TJ,S, but buy some of my items elsewhere.. During Holidays will try the specialty goodies, but have to watch the sweets. I do not like the Salmon there and go to the fresh fish market for it.

(Genetically Modified Organisms) GMO products are less expensive. Non-GMO farmers do not have the "funding" GMO farmers have.

Also, hydrogenated* fats/oils, partially hydrogenated* fats/oils, shortening, "margerine", trans fats*, trans* fatty oils--all these are not valuable to one's nutrition. So I don't buy products and will not consume anything (check your vitamins too) that have these in their ingredients. *The products which have these ingredients extend the products' shelf life--it is in the interest of shelf life, not nutritional well being (life of humans), these ingredients are included. These products, therefore, can lower their prices due to shelf-life and low restock fees.

To shop in a market who will watch out for what I value in my family's nutrition makes shopping at Whole Foods fun!

And for what I buy, TJ does not carry what Whole Foods carries, to a large degree. And in the items they do carry, their (TJ) prices are higher. TJ may have "similar" products, but the word "organic" does not mean the same after one looks carefully at the ingredients and/or wants to know, for certain, whether the product is or is not GMO.

I will be in the neighborhood of O&H soon, when I go to my mother's. They actually charge 8.99 for the kringles there, so TJs is a better deal. Still, I may have to get one. Kringle is on the table here for almost any party. I had guests last week and we had bar cookies, etc for dessert. My mom brought the kringle (she buys from Bentsen's but they are just a small bakery) and it was the first thing gone.

Chitown and other no. IL posters, if you ever head north on the I, the Iron Kettle truck stop on hyw. 20 sells the O&H kringle.

One year we ordered a great coffee cake from them - I think it was called 7 Sisters, or something like that. But I bet it's better fresh!
