Re: Tired of broken up, frozen pie crust from the store? Make your own. I will not buy another frozen crust.

I always use the refrigerated Pillsbury pie crusts. Even my grandmother( who used to always make her own) uses them now. They taste great.

I gave up on making pie crust years ago. I usually buy Pillsbury or Orchid something or other. I don't make too many pies anymore, just around the holidays. Rolling it out was always the worst part for me.

I made pie crusts back in the day and nothing could make me make another one. Granted, I only make pies at Thanksgiving but I use the frozen crusts and I love them. My own pie crusts were broken and patched but the frozen ones are always perfect.

Oh, I don't want to see this thread die...how I wish I had written down my mother memories and recipes.....all that being said, I did a search on my Nook which is a Barnes and Noble device-I have a Kindle too, but the Nook is great for magazines and I found some treasures that anybody reading this thread might be interested in. The first one I found is called " America in WII's Home Front Life"-I can't wait to sit down with that one tonight. The next one I found is called " Rimince" and covers life from the 30's, 40's 50's and 60's . I subscribed to that one. The last one is called "Good Old Days"- I did subscribe to it at one point, and I can't tell you why, but it just didn't hold my interest....At any rate, these magazines are reader drven-readers write in about their memories from these times-and l just love it. I am sure these magazines especially are available in hard copy from, and I am not technically knowledgeable, but if anybody needs publisher info, I will do my best. Poodlepet

The store-bought kind are good for me. I haven't had enough troubles with them to warrant DIY.

I don't really make fruit pies but I do make quiche a lot and always use the frozen pet ritz crusts. Never had a problem with them.

I just use the frozen pie crusts too. I don't seem to get broken crusts. I'm just not into making crusts from scratch anymore. Unbelievably, Walmart has the best frozen pie crusts I've ever used.

I always use frozen..........I don't make ANYTHING that has to be kneaded and/or rolled out! LOL I've never had a problem with the frozen crusts being broken. I make lots of pies every Thanksgiving and other than a time or two have one tiny piece chip off the edge when separating the two frozen crusts, I don't have a problem.
