I haven't noticed any change. Generally speaking, I will get my favorite brands when they are on sale - then I'll buy two pounds and have enough for many months. I was at the store on Monday and it was the same as usual.

My favorite brands are either Land O'Lakes, Tillamook, or Challenge. Almost always I find one of those on ad. Of course, since I wanted to get some on Monday none were, but they were at the usual regular price.

Hey chickenbutt

Does your Raleys have those super Monday sales? OMG, a couple weeks ago they had lobster tails 5 bucks each, butter 2,99, kcups 6.99 for Peets and Starbucks. I love the Monday sales!!!!

I always freeze and never noticed a difference in consistency. I found this on the internet and is exactly what I do- vacuum seal even better I am sure

<ol style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small; line-height: 15.6000003814697px;"> <li class="mod" style="margin: 0px; padding: 20px 20px 0px; border: 0px; line-height: 1.2; list-style: none; clear: none;">
To freeze butter, wrap tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil or plastic freezer wrap, or place inside a heavy-duty freezer bag. Frozen salted butter will generally keep longer (up to 9 months for best quality) than unsalted butter(5-6 months for best quality).
</li> </ol>

Thanks, Nikkimom! I will try it. I love to vacuum seal, so this is right up my alley! I also prefer salted butter so that's another one in the plus column. I would imagine, like other foods, it stops aging as soon as it's frozen so the 'use by' date becomes irrelevant.

I would definitely say that vacuum sealing it would be MUCH preferable over wrapping and putting in plastic bags. Smiley Happy

I think I'll take one cube out, from the lb I just bought, vac seal it, and freeze it, to test it out.

I have put butter in the freezer for years. Alton Brown says it is good to freeze if you are not going to use the butter in a week. Mine lasts forever, so I freeze. Actually I freeze in the unopened carton, but I should vacuum seal it.

There is never, ever a change in texture for me.

I just put the cartons into the freezer and take them out as I need them. Pastry crusts and scones turn out better if you use frozen butter.

I also buy the Kerrygold at Costco.. It is delicious. I purchased last month and it had not gone up. I hope it doesn't

I am shocked about how high the price of butter has gone up. Not long ago, it was around $3.89 a pound - last time I bought it, the price had climbed to $6.19 per pound (and it was the same brand and at the same store). This is in the Bay Area, near San Francisco. I don't know when it will stop going up, I keep looking for a sale but haven't seen any.

$5 Monday! I love it. I have started going on Mondays most of the time now, and especially when something is on the $5 Monday column that I would usually buy. The deals are amazing.

I love Raley's.

It was something like $2.49 a pound at Aldi - that's pretty much the only place I buy it anymore, unless Publix has a sale @ 2/$4 - and they recently had Kerrygold Irish butter at that price!

I mostly use butter for baking - I use very little myself, and when I do it's whipped butter. When I find a good sale, I stock up.

I've been buying it at Aldi's, too, right across the street from Wegmans. BTW, it's the same grade (AA, which is the highest for butter) as the Wegmans and Land o' Lakes brands.

Last week one of our grocery stores had butter on sale for $1.50 per pound, it was part of a grand opening sale. So I stocked up. I'm now set for my holiday baking.
