Re: The Sterling Spoon in my Soup: Gift Suggestion for Tableware Loversers

@Sooner

I don't know WHY...but I love using a "fancy" spoon...especially for desserts.

I would stop in thrift stores...and dig out "singles" from bins of miscellaneous tableware.    But, I haven't seen anything in the past couple years.

I do prefer stainless, too.     I have bought a few on internet "replacement" sites.     di

@Sooner  May I ask, can you - do you - put your sterling in the dishwasher?

I have a set of sterling flatware from my DM, and want to use it as my every day. Just wondering if I have to hand wash.

Good gift idea, btw!

eta: Never mind, I guess. I just found some useful information regarding using the dishwasher & sterling.

Well, anyway, what do you do?

Great idea. I have a partial set of Chantilly that my late mother started for me when I was born. I'll look and see if I have a soup spoon!

I love the Chantily pattern but use a pewter set that I received as a wedding gift for every day. It has a nice spoon, too.

@Harpa Yes.  Sometimes I throw the singles I use daily in the dishwasher.  Some dishwasher detergents will remove the black tarnish that is there to enhance the design.  What I put in the dishwasher, I am not picky about.

Also, you shouldn't let them touch stainless in the dishwasher or use lemon detergent.

@Harpa What I do is clean up the set, put it in tarnish inhibiting case or bag with those strips to keep tarnish at bay, and keep out a few pices to use daily.  I use twinkle or the wipes on these, and they aren't kept pristine!  Enjoy them!
