The Sterling Spoon in my Soup: Gift Suggestion for Tableware Loversers

If you have a lover of tableware on your gift list, or maybe someone who enjoys pretty things, maybe someone who lives alone and would love to use this, I have an idea for a gift.

I eat my morning raisin bran and all soups with a sterling cream soup or gumbo (bigger usually) spoon.  They are big enough not to spill and beautiful to look at.

I love how long the handles are, the designs and the deeper bowls that hold more and are bigger than anything I have in stainless.  They are just a treat to use and less apt to spill for us messy eaters.

So I thought this would be a unique and personal gift.  Maybe in a bag with a box of cereal (fun idea) or a gift card for deliveries,  groceries, or even with a bag of pre-made  soups?

I use a polish cloth occasionally (would be nice with the spoon gift, toss them in the dishwasher NOT touching stainless steel (the tarnish may come off in the patters, which then doesn't show up as much--but won't hurt the usefulness), but a little tarnish isn't unhealthy for you. Woman Embarassed

I found mine on vacations in antique stores and often marked down. I started doing this to keep from buying junk on vacation.  It was a fun thing to look for.   E-bay has them for $35 and up--and lots of "make me an offer" too!

I will say the Gorham Chantilly cream soup (one favorite of mine) is not as big as the Towle Louis XIV gumbo spoons and the Gorham/Durgin Fairfax ones are bigger. You can tell by measurements and weight statistics online.  And price maybe.

I do have a couple regular shaped sterling soup or place spoons too that I enjoy.  And they remind me of happy hunting in antique stores on vacation.

@Sooner   My mother's silver pattern is Chantilly. it's a rose pattern. I don't think there are the cream soup spoons but I'll look. I seldom use mine or my grandmother's that are Old Master.
It's a good idea to use them for cereal or soup, thanks!

@Sooner  Your post speaks to me again Lol.

I purged & dwindled my flatware down to 5 sets. And it's just me now. When my child lived at home yet, I had a canister on the counter with 2 sets of everyday flatware upside-down that could be easily accessed and the other sets in drawers.

Currently, I have my eye on some casual-ornate sets at Neiman Marcus. NM has a great selection of tabletop. I'm considering their Napoleon set in blue marble to match my everyday blue Johnson Brothers.

I've also seen some small (demi-tasse?) spoons with patterned porcelain that might be nice to stir my coffee with Lol.

Downsizing can be such a challenge!

@1Snickers Those are both beautiful patterns!  You are lucky to have them!  Oh yes use them!  We keep ours in a tall glass on the counter where we can just grab one!  Two forks, a few spoons.

@Desert Lily Yes they do have beautiful things and good sales--and their sister site Horchow!  Have you seen the bee pattern flatware???  WOW!  The blue marble sounds great!

Christian Dior has "marbre" china in a rose color, green malachine (stunning!), and blue, maybe black!  They are fabulous, old, and discontinued!  But pretty to look at.

@Sooner  Of course I have to look now.  : )

Neiman's has a single gold-plated Medusa teaspoon by Versace for $425, but it might be too small for cereal & too big for coffee Lol.

@Desertdi On a serious note:  I don't know why they don't make stainless soup or gumbo spoons with the deeper bowls like these sterling ones.

The old ones are such a pleasure to eat with.  Most have a much better profile for liquids than modern round and oblong soup spoons.  Just glad I wasn't buying t-shirts on vacation all these years later!  Woman Very Happy
