Re: Thanksgiving in July? Feeling kind of weird about it...

I cook turkey other times during the year on occasion I purchase an extra one and cut it up and use just the breast saving other parts for roasting or braising. To me turkey is a staple in my freezer.

Now that you mention it, I also have an extra turkey in the freezer.  I'll have to check the weight, to see if it's big enough for us to have for a family Father's Day Dinner.  Thanks for bringing up the topic.

Doesn't bother me. It's a bird. Cook it and eat it any time!

I never understood only cooking one at holidays.  If they are on sale, and you like them, cook'em if you've got'em.

@wagirl @JeanLouiseFinch They are really good smoked and served with slaw and other summer foods!  Or shredded with bbq sauce.

Re: Thanksgiving in July? Feeling kind of weird about it...

I only cook a turkey once a year on Thanksgiving.  I'll have some leftovers, maybe for one or two meals, but that's it.  It's already over 90 degrees here and cooking a turkey, or any large/hot meal, is something I don't want to do.

Mmm, haven't had turkey drumsticks in awhile, makes me want to cook them in the crockpot now.
