@house_cat - Guess what? We're having a Thanksgiving in July dinner this Sunday as well! We're big fans of turkey and all the fixins (though we'll probably only do half of them for this round) and have always thought it was a shame to just enjoy this great meal once per year, so we started having it twice a year back in 2015.
Our only reason for thinking it might be weird: The high temperature is forecast for 103, so it's not going to be pleasant to have the oven on for so long. We're pondering options for the slow cooker since we're just enjoying a slightly smaller turkey with a smaller group; we'll see what happens...

What a coincidence! I don't find that my oven heats the house very much, but I won't be making all the sides like an autumn Thanksgiving. I'll make mashed potatoes and a veggie. My kids aren't big on dessert - some in season fruit is enough for them. They usually take home most of the leftovers from our Sunday dinners, but I do have turkey pot pie on my menu for later in the week and I'm looking forward to that.

If I could "find" a turkey breast in this area, we would definitely be eating a summer Thanksgiving meal!
My IGA had 2 whole turkeys in the freezer last week, but that is too much waste for us. I stopped cooking turkeys at least 15 years ago because no one here eats the dark meat.
We made do with Stouffers turkey entrees, but I want oven roasted turkey! Enjoy your meal!

Have you tried a frozen turkey breast if your store has them? I find using a baking bag, they come out just as moist as a whole turkey.
I also roast turkey at 325 degrees which yeilds a very moist breast.

None of the local grocery stores have turkey breasts right now, which is what I've been looking for.
Teacher daughter is to check the Wal-Mart and Food Lion near her boyfriends house to see if she can find turkey breasts there. He lives in another county, with a couple of different stores than I have access to.

I hope you can find a turkey breast in the frozen dept. I find all brands work well and you get about 2 11/2 to 3 cups of real broth with a crock pot on low 5 hrs for a 9 lb breast.
The back has to be cut out because the lid of the large crock won't go down.

@house_cat Yes, I do. In late August, 1990 Waldbaums had a good deal on whole frozen turkey so I picked one up and cooked it over that weekend with all the usual Thanksgiving sides. My two children who were in elementary school at the time and some of their neighborhood friends also enjoyed the midday meal with us.
Turns out one of the friend's mom had the same idea when she saw the store's sale and she cooked a traditional Thanksgiving meal that day, too. So we always refer to that as our Thanksgiving summer. We will never forget because it was the day the ambulance took my mother to hospice, where she died several days later on Labor Day.
So, when I have an extra frozen turkey I cook one, even in the hot weather or any other time of the year.
I have a Nescco 18 quart roaster that is wonderful in the hot weather to roast a turkey--don't have to heat up the kitchen with the regular oven. I've even prepared a very big one in one of those old super large GE microwaves when I didn't have a regular working oven and it was delicious.
I now cook one about three or four times a year. It is no more complicated to prepare than a roasting chicken and with lots more leftovers to make other yummy meals.

Would do it if it weren't terribly hot out. Tomorrow will be 73 and rainy so turkey with all the trimmings would taste great.

I have some turkey leg meat sitting in my refrigerator right now. I bought 2 extra large turkey legs and put them in the crock pot yesterday with chicken broth and veggies, for flavor. We had two meals out of them and tomorrow I'll make a nice lentil, carrot, and left over turkey soup out of the remains.
Whenever I make turkey, I also make orange / cranberry sauce and some times we will have turkey sandwiches with the orange/cranberry sauce.
Everyone will enjoy your turkey meal, for sure.
