I agree with Novamc. But, hey, if people like it that's fine by me.

I also love silicone utensils and have many - some might say too many, but I don't think so!

I do like wood but only have a few select pieces that I've had forever and they are beautiful quality olive wood from either Spain, Italy, or France. Sure, there's the care but I don't mind since these really are great pieces.

But I have seen these spurtle things and they seem to not be that great quality. They will probably serve their purpose but just won't last nearly as long as something made of olive wood and that is heavier. They are really light and thin. But as long as people take proper care of them they might last a while. With wood you can't just wash it and let it sit to dry, plus you need to apply an oil or a cream to it after washing.

I don't personally see the use for me in my kitchen either. They look to be nothing more than a wooden spatula. I find no difficulty folding things into a batter without a spurtle, or cleaning out a jar without one. A rubber or silicone spatula does the same job.

Maybe it is one of those things that you don't know what your missing until you have and use it, but I've not been tempted to try it.

FFunny, I have thought the same about the spurtles...

But one thing I wad not sure of, but now can't live WITHOUT, is that set of two giant silicone "forks" I use those everyday! As a spatula, for turning, for breaking up meat, for blending, starting,you name it..They are heat proof, stay cool, won't mar or scratch..just LOVE them!

I've had my set since they were first introduced on QVC. I love it.. It's like a spatula and a wooden spoon all in one product... I would recommend them to anyone. And it is not a wooden spoon..

This is hilarious as I am on vacation in Scotland right now. I bought three spurtles yesterday as gifts for 3 pounds each. I saw them in a fancy Edinburgh department store for 4 pounds each.

They are for "porridge" (oatmeal) but beware the price you pay! Mine came with cute tartan bows.

They are Scottish by origin.
