That is a good idea Sooner---I think I did go thru my stash of all that before I moved last Dec. Think all my stuff is good and I do use it all, no matter what the season is. I did clear out my tiny freezer and tossed alot of dribs and drabs of stuff tho. Lots--well my idea of "lots" of room in there now--its very small.😉

@wagirl Have you looked at those silicone square and rectangular storage/freezer trays?  We have started using those--they come in different sizes.  You can freeze leftovers in them in covered silicone squares with  lid on them.

When they are frozen, either leave them there until you use them or take them out and wrap or freezer bag them.  We have gone from miscellaneous bags of dabs that finally get pitched out and are doing this and making sure we use the frozen stuff before it goes stale.  We have really cut down the mess in the freezer.

You might look at them on Amazon.  ALL kinds and sizes,  and prices.  You might find a size and shape that would make sense for you!  Just a thought.

I used to do a complete spice/seasoning overhaul every couple of years.  It was a pricey and a project.  Nowadays I just get what I need when I need it.  I use much of the same things all year round.

Re: Spice Reset for Fall

[ Edited ]

@Sooner --I have a few of those only they are ice cube size--I made pesto and used them and then had so many fresh garlic cloves that I chopped up and froze too. Mostly DD and eat our leftovers--so there isn't usually anything to freeze but sometimes leftover broths or beans --not really alot. I try really hard to cook enough for DD to take whats left for her lunch the next day.

Now the best thing I did after just a few days in this new apt, was I found pull out spice racks  that perfectly fit into the cubboard area where my seasonings live near the stove--OMG that is the best thing ever!! Each of them fit, each is double decker. Now my plan is to get rid of the round jars and get just square shaped bottles so no wasted space. and it pulls out too!! ery happy with that!!

Mine are all lined up in a drawer alphabetically, label face up. I write expiration date on them so it is quick and easy to read.

I couldn't stand how my spices were being stored in my corner cabinet so I did a purge a few weeks ago.  I got two small lazy Susans to store several bottles and I also have bottles stored on the inside of door of the cabinet.

Not my ideal (I would love to have a big drawer just for spices) but I can see almost everything at a glance now.

@haddon9 That's what we did .  I am short husband very tall.  So what we use frequently is in a lazy susan in the lower cabinet shelf by the cooktop, and we have a step style holder on a shelf in the small pantry for the ones not used as much.

The BIG bottles of Italian, 3 kinds of Chili powder, etc. are sideways on a rack in the second shelf above the cooktop. So I can s-t-r-e-a-t-c-h oof and grab the cap.  Woman Surprised

I check all of the time. I still use the glass McCormick jars my mom had. Some are stamped 23 cents! I.wash them out, fill them, and keep track of the date.  Smiley Happy

@beach-mom  I don't even remember McCormick's spices in glass jars! But I do know that I'll be reverting to another brand that, it just so happens, uses glass jars. I'm not averse to using plastic, but McCormick's now uses those plastic labels that curl and peel off since they redesigned their bottles.

II grow my own herbs and am in the process of drying all of them now to keep this winter. I highly recommend growing your own, you'd be shocked at the lovely flavor they really have. Store-bought? Umm No.

Broke out my Fall spices today for pumpkin muffins. Also grabbed some new spices at Walmart to try.

Happy Fall!
