Do you have the Slow Cooker Revolution cookbooks? They have all kinds of techniques, and info on when to start a dish, etc. They also have some unique ways to make pasta dishes, desserts, and the recipes are tested (America's Test Kitchen.) Some of these books from various publishers actually do not test the recipes. They do.

Wouldn't putting a slow cooker on a timer to turn in on at a certain time possibly cause any meats to go bad since it would just sit there for hours until time to turn it on??

I too have a whole house generator but with my Crockpots once the power goes off and then goes back on the Crockpot does not go back on. Be careful! Not sure about others Crockpots though.

My old Hamilton Beach has high, low & auto. The auto starts on high, then switches to a low setting after an hour. My high setting is really high, it boils, so I use low auto almost always. I pulled out my manual that came with it and it says to never cook frozen meat in it so I stick by my original post.
