The rule of not using "soap" on cast iron is left over from the days of harse lye soap. Modern dish detergent does not harm the seasoning of cast iron which is made up of polymerized fats.

I always wash my cast iron after each use, but I make sure it's dry before I put it away. I do have to reseason it from time to time though.

Jax, you're absolutely correct!  Lodge may even have that on their website.

 

Old habits are hard to break, though.
