I grew up on a large farm looking up to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  As a child, I'd eat tomatoes in the garden until I had to drink buttermilk to neutralize the acid in my mouth!  We always had fresh green beans.

These days I go to the Farmer's Market.  All of these people come from the same surroundings I grew up in and at times I still want that.

What do you like to get?

@ECBG@That looks wonderful. We don’t have anything like that in our area but I would be shopping if we did.I like local farm fresh produce....don’t like the stuff in the grocery store that has been mass produced and chemically treated for quantity over quality.

We don’t have farmers markets here in the summer. The veggies and fruit would shrivel and wilt after about an hour. We do have some in the winter months.

@ECBG-------where I grew up (New England) individual households would grow different things. Whether it was tomatoes, corn, flowers, squash , etc.

there always seemed to be an excess. Wooden box stands would sit at the end of most driveways and they would be stocked with whatever the home grower had extra of when they picked that morning.

No haggling about cost.....the prices , for each item, would be written on little pieces of cardboard and an empty jar was left on the table in which you would leave your payment and take change. Hardly ever saw a person.

To this day, even though I live in NJ, that's still how we buy hay and feed for our animals....go to a barn 24/7, take what we need and leave cash in a box left by the owner whom I have never met !

I shop them all the time. Here they never went out of style but not nearly as trendy as the photos.

Tended by members of family farmers they can explain their offerings as well as how to cook, prepare and store.

I get my milk there, too. In a glass 1/2 gallon bottle. Non hemogenized with cream at the top. Organic from a local family dairy. Tastes like milk should taste.

I love buying all the fresh veggies and fruits I can get at the farmers market or from roadside stands.  Especially tomatoes.

We have a lot of farmers markets in our area. Most of the farmers come from Virginia and Maryland, but one comes from Pennsylvania. They stagger the locations and times, so everyone has a chance to buy their goods. They’re the only place I buy my fresh corn and peaches. They’re also great for melons, tomatoes and other fresh produce. There are also vendors who sell homemade pickles, salsas, cheeses and chocolates. Almost everyone puts out samples for tasting. Yummy!

I grew up in the country and we always had a big garden. I sure do miss that! I buy my fresh veggies from the Farmers' Market all Summer long now. Cucumbers, tomatoes, green onions, sweet corn, peppers, watermelon and yellow squash. They are delicious!

We have several Farmer's Markets in this area.  Some of the local farms have small stands where they sell their own produce, fresh, picked this morning!

A State Farmer's Market for shipping is near here.  They ship what you get!
