I have one that I got probably back in the 60's also and a set of three in different sizes.

I always use it for making and rising my bread dough.

Just wondering if perhaps Dollar store sells bowls that could be used as garbage bowls

I would think so. Would be good enough. I have a ""small bucket"" from Dollar Tree that I use for food scraps that go to recycling bin. It has a cover too.

No, RR's doesn't say "garbage" on it. It is a speckled bowl and came in a few colors, I think.

Whatever one buys that makes their life easier or happier I say, good for them, but I absolutely cannot find any reason for me to buy a bowl to put my peelings in. I have a ton of bowls that will do that job the same way but like I said, whatever makes you happy.

Re: Rachael Ray Garbage Bowl

These are Melmac bowls. Because of that, I always thought they were massively over-priced, but I cannot make the call for how somebody else should spend their money.

I just use one of a zillion bowls I already have (I like bowls!), which works great. It is a great idea for prep/cooking, rather than dragging the trash can to the prep area or going back and forth, creating a less efficient working environment. I actually never thought of it until I first saw Rachael using a bowl years ago. What a great idea! But I was never tempted to buy her plastic bowls, once she started selling them. Kudos for a moneymaker, though.

Rachael is a GREAT marketer!

I use leftover Wegman's bags that I use to line a bowl.

I'm glad you got a good deal.Smiley Happy And while I love mixing bowls and have a few different sets, I don't quite understand the " garbage bowl" thing. I've been doing this with an extra bowl since I started cooking. I throw my peels, skins, and "garbage" in any 'ol bowl while I'm prepping.
