Question about The Swiss Colony

I was wondering if anyone has ordered any food or candy items from The Swiss Colony recently, and if so, how was the quality? When I was growing up my mom always ordered their Petits Fours and the chocolate Yule log for Christmas time. I haven't had any of their products in years, but I received one of their catalogs and was thinking of getting some Petits Fours and maybe some other goodies to have for the holidays. Have any of you had a bad experience with either the quality or their shipping? I could always order some treats from W-S or Harry & David, but The Swiss Colony brings back some fond childhood memories so I thought I would try them again. Thanks for any input.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I haven't lately, but my mother also ordered petits fours from them for many years while I was growing up. Once I moved out on my own, I would order them every year just for me and the quality was always consistent.

I just happen to be on the mailing list for Figi's which is similar to Swiss Colony, so I've been ordering my petits fours from them for the past few years. For some reason, I don't get the Swiss Colony catalogs any longer. That reminds me that I need to visit their website and request one. They always have the best selection.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I did every Christmas back in the 80's and early 90's. The chocolate/pastries, smoked meats, and cheeses were really good. But who knows now. Never had a problem with delivery on time for my trips home or the gifts I sent out of state. Still it was a long time ago.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I used to order the large Dobosh Torte & Petits Fours. It was always good. They quit making the large dobosh torte & only sell a small one now. I have 2 catalogs sitting here I was thinking about placing an order shipped to my sisters house since I will be there. We don't want to be in the kitchen all day every day. Check out RetailMeNot they have a 10% off coupon & a $15 off $75. Don't forget your free gift. They still do that.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I ordered the petit fours for years...I especially liked the ones that spelled out "Merry Christmas". They were good and kept for a long while in the refrigerator. One family member hated cookies or cakes...but loved the petite fours...so that was an easy gift every year!! Have to say though, haven't ordered them in recent years...everyone is on a diet!!

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I'll be honest: I've been the recipient of a number of their holiday towers (?) and nearly all of it ended up in the trash. Honestly, none of it but maybe a jar of jam was edible.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

They are now "Colony" and they bought, among other businesses, Montgomery Wards, at one time.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

ShopHQ was selling Hickory Farms boxes the other day. I couldn't believe it. Doesn't every mall in the country have one or two Hickory Farms kiosks this time of year? And Hickory Farms are in most supermarkets. Further, all those places have them 50% off right after Christmas. I've nothing against Hickory Farms, it just seemed an odd choice for a shopping channel.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I haven't seen a Swiss Colony catalog in ages. I always thought the yule logs with the little raccoons peeking out were so cute.

We get Figi's catalogs now and have bought some of their gift sets before. They are ok, about like Hickory Farms.

What I like from Figi's is the fudge. We got some fudge that was really good, very smooth and creamy.
