Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

IMHO, there are far better gift basket companies out there than Swiss Colony, Figi, and Hickory Farms.

We like Harry & David, Zingermans, American Spoon, and this year I ordered from Wine Country Gift Baskets.

I would tend to agree, however, I'm not ordering gift baskets. I also like Harry & David and have always been pleased with Wine Country Gift Baskets, but the reason I asked about Swiss Colony is because I received their catalog and remembered their Petits Fours from holidays growing up. They looked good and I wanted to try them again, just wondered if others had recently ordered from Swiss Colony and if their quality was still up to par. They notified me that my order shipped, so I guess I'll find out in a few days. They must be doing something right to be in business for such a long time.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I've ordered many times from Swiss Colony. I'm from Wisconsin and grew up not far from Monroe, Wisconsin. Swiss Colony started there. I absolutely love the beef log that they sell. Get a sweet honey mustard and I'm in heaven.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

To person referencing Figis, don't order from these people. Last year BF sent orders to about 4 neighbors, his 2 daughters and me. His daughters and I didn't think the food was good, and 3 orders got totally messed up. The customer service was a joke.

Thank you, that's good to hear. I also ordered a small cheese log assortment that includes a couple of their different beef logs, so I look forward to trying those. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I'm the person that mentioned Figi's, but my experience has been quite different. I order petits fours and tortes from them every year and I've never had a problem. I'm sorry to hear that your BF had a bad experience.

They are now "Colony" and they bought, among other businesses, Montgomery Wards, at one time.

Its not swiss colony anymore? I got a catalog a couple weeks ago and didn't even notice. Now, I have to look…

Ive ordered the pumpkin bites. Sooo good. But I just can't afford it anymore. Ive always wanted to try the raccoon yule log. Some here said it was good, so maybe Ill try it.

I got a catalog last week. It definitely was Swiss Colony, same as always.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I have to admit that I am a little bit prejudiced, as I was born and lived in Monroe, WI, the home of Swiss Colony. In fact, my mother (before she married) used to babysit for the son of the young man (and of course his wife) who became the founder of Swiss Colony.

I have also worked at a Swiss Colony retail store.

The petit fours are really good. I order the assortment. I particularly like the apricot and red velvet.

The Beef Log is the signature sausage of Swiss Colony, even though they do make other sausages. The Sweet Hot Mustard is unlike any other mustard I have ever had. I do not like most mustards, but I love to dip a slice of beef log in this mustard.

The Swiss Colony became "Colony Brands, Inc." in 2010 to reflect the many subsidiaries added over the years.

These include:

The Tender Filet---gourmet food

Ginny's--newest and "tried and true" products for the home

Seventh Avenue--unique items found world wide

One Step Ahead--items for babies, children, and parents

Home Visions---household furnishings

Montgomery Ward--most of us probably remember this catalog retailer

Race Team Gear--NASCAR licensed gear

Ashro--a catalog catering to women of color

Monroe and Main---women's apparel, shoes, and accessories

Midnight Velvet---dramatic fashions, jewelry, etc.

Through the Country Door---country style items

Swiss Colony has come a long way since 1926 when it first started. It is one of the largest employers in the area.

Re: Question about The Swiss Colony

I ordered 6 of the spreadables in garden vegetable. They are excellent and first ingredient is cream cheese. YUM!! They are called The Swiss Colony and you can order a catalog. Just call or email. I also love their salt free assorted nuts. Very good quality!
