I have a question about bacon grease. I know many save and use this in their cooking. I remember my mother putting it on top of biscuits before cooking them. But, my question is, what about sausage grease, or a combo.

Today on Live with Kelly & Mark, one of the holiday specials was some products for cooking and storing bacon and grease. I have looked at bacon grease storage tins on Amazon, but invariably they are quite large. The one they showed was a small silicone cup which piqued my interest since I don't cook bacon that much. My husband, on the other hand, cooks chicken sausage fairly regularly. So, I was wondering whether the combination of the two would make sense in cooking.

@Icegoddess  I only save beef tallo and bacon fat/grease for cooking. I will occasionally use butter/ghee but that's it. I don't mix the beef tallo and bacon grease and never saved grease from sausage. As for storage, I just use Lock & Lock containers.

Side Note: We do not use seed oils & margarine which cause inflammation.

Re: Question About Bacon Grease

Way back in the past.people put bacon grease in a coffee can, i think any  container with a top would be fine.

Re: Question About Bacon Grease

I think any good can with a tight fitting lid would do.  I also want to add something else to this thread about bacon grease, etc.

Another viable option for the grease would be to mix it with bird seed and hang it outside in the winter for the birds, who are so often overlooked in freezing weather.

I store my bacon grease in a Philadelphia cream cheese container.

I save my bacon grease in a Smuckers jelly jar, store it in the fridge, and use it to season dried beans, cornbread, grease the baking sheet for biscuits, and in the skillet to fry potatoes.

The sausage we like does not render much fat, barely a teaspoon full, so I do not save it.  I will fry eggs or potatoes in that small amount of fat, or make sausage gravy with it.  Sausage fat certainly adds flavor if you are sautéing onions and peppers, onions and celery, making soup, etc.   If I fry sausage today and know I'm going to cook something tomorrow that would be great cooked in that skillet, I will put that skillet in the oven to save for tomorrow.

I would never mix bacon and sausage fat together, in a jar, but would add both to something I'm cooking.

I will fry eggs or potatoes in it.

Ditto - But I store my bacon grease in the cupboard, and it seasons greens, beans and veggies beautifully as well.

Re: Question About Bacon Grease

I made a recipe that called for bacon grease. I did not have any. So I cooked a half a pound of bacon. Well, finally a recipe I cooked that got rave reviews.

So I got a heavy glass jar with a very tight lid. It holds about 1/4 cup. And I store the bacon grease in it. I do not keep any other grease. I pour all the other types of grease into metal cans that have lids and throw the grease out.

I think the bacon grease added a nice flavor to the dish. Any other grease would not add as tasty a flavor.
