What do you make in your pressure cooker? Is an Instant Pot the same thing?

I just got a pressure cooker and not sure what I will use it for.

@OhioAngel--yes, basically. the Instant Pot has more bells and whistles than a lot of PCs. Did you get an Instant Pot or another brand? there are other brands that have alot of the same things as the IP. there should be a recipe book with it--try something easy to get the feel for it. I cook many things in mine--soups, roasts, chicken, yogurt. The first thing I made in my old pc ,was mac and cheese from Bob Wardens first pc cookbook---

I'm still learning with mine but you should have one or two cookbooks to help you. I purchased one by Meredith Larence and one by Bob Warton. Pioneer Women has recipes on line. I've made shredded beef and a roast and was pleased with the results. I plan to try some more meals very soon.

I use a pressure cooker for making soups and stews. The Instant Pot community on Facebook has a lot of users that do make cakes, yogurt, boil eggs etc in their Instant Pot. I haven't used it for anything other than what I used to do with my stove top pressure cooker.

@OhioAngel---you can still do alot in it without the special buttons. You just need high, and low pressure and some of them have med pressure but haven't seen too many of those. I suggest Bob Wardens, not Warton, books---Slow Food Fast and Great Food Fast to start with. Such good recipes and made for just a normal PC.

My favorite thing to make in my pressure cooker is stewed chicken and big, fluffy dumplings which you steam in the liquid after the chicken is cooked.  I don't use a recipe as I've been making this for years.

There are thousands of PC recipes online.  There's really no need to buy cookbooks.

I do the usual things.  I love doing pork in my Nesco PC.  My pot is non-stick so super easy to clean.  One way I do the pork is brown it, pour a little water and sherry in the bottom.  Top with a Heinz 57, or steak sauce or Asian sauce, top with sliced onions and cook.  Delicious and simple. I've done some of Bob Warden's pasta recipes.  Come out perfect.  I also use mine to make wonderful refried beans.  Freeze and get out what I need for a meal.

Yesterday I did hard boiled eggs.  They came out perfect and easy to peel.
