My ice maker broke and I just buy a bag of ice and put it in the ice container in the freezer and the dispenser on the door works fine. Sometimes I don't put the whole bag in at one time I found that works better. It's a good solution until I replace my refrigerator. I have to have ice in any cold drink just my preference.

Our city water is pumped from an underground aquifer and has a lot of minerals. The ice-maker in our frig is always full of white powdery dust. It's from the water.

As a test you can boil a pan of water and see what's left in the pan after all the water boils off.

@bargainsgirl.  It could have been lime or calcium residue from water used in the trays and not necessarily from the plastic.

Yes...after more discussions we thought ...plastic floats.... Soaked the trays in vinegar for a bit and sure enough.  Sorry for the false alarm!!

Highly unlikely it's the plastic ice cube trays.  It's your water.

No the water is completely clear.  We compared.  Mineral deposits.  We have hard water.
